Vehicle Detail

just so you know, ralph nader had nothing to do with its demise. It was far to good of a car for a dolt like him to kill it off. it runs. it drives, it stops, and I am never afraid to drive it. would be stunning in blue again. but this guy can't drive it often enough to enjoy it, it seems each year I keep it I use it less and less. I enjoyed it, it is fun to own, but I'd like to place it into the hands of a more competent owner, hoping eBay can deliver that notion. work, kids, and work and more work, prevent this mid life crisis from blossoming, I'll have to wait 'til there out of college and off my health insurance lol. 1969 Chevrolet Corvair convertible 105679W700242 clear WI title. front frame rail matches VIN. 90420 miles, i don't see any reason why this isn't fairly accurate. odo always worked for me. ST 69 10567 WRN 100664 BDY (69 duh. 10567 monza convert fisher body number) TR 701 71 A PNT 701=701 black monza trim 71=lemans blue A=convert top color (forgot if black or white) 08D A manufactured date , i used to know, i think 4th week of august on the AM shift, i could be wrong, correct me if wrong, you know who you are. car goes with Bill of Sale too. have a decent degree of receipts going back about a decade. Motor is NOT original to the car, its a 65-66 110, runs fine, always starts, its ridiculous how easy it starts, thanks to a genuine corvair guy in Two Rivers, nice job Jim J, haven't touched it since you fixed it. has lifter noise on the passenger side until it warms up. took the car in on April 2008, has been in dry storage/dry weather ALWAYS since that time. bought in MN, have tracked most all previous owners. Before MN was in IN and before that PA. I can't verify it but have car tracked to what I believe is the 2nd owner who bought car at Carlisle show in PA in early 70's. Car has had a rough life, but I'm hoping someone out there has a heart for it. I do, I don't really want to sell it but with a heart requires money, of which I'm lacking, love the car love the hobby, just no pockets for it. Is it worth saving? I've been told, yes, even with the gremlins. Was it in a vacuum kind of a question, yes, answer was tainted. Exterior: currently painted red, should be LeMan's blue as evidenced in various places on the vehicle, nicks, dings, bubbles, rust, scratches, dents, divets abound; there is not a body panel that requires some attention, I'm not going to sugar coat it, she needs help. Replaced front hood, as I felt the original one had some slight hail damage. I still have the original one, and if you want it, it can go with the car, I'd have to tie town over the current one if it were to be shipped cross country. Or if you do the local pick up thing we can swap them out and revert back to "original original" condition or just take both. Maybe I'm overreacting on the difficulty of repairing light hail damage. I also have a good used engine lid, as the one that is on it now has a dent in it. so same rule applies as the front, if you want it, blah, blah blah. Yeah, so the rear quarter doesn't look so good does it. Previous owner #3 or #4 in car's history shared the story on how that happened. His son was picking someone up at O'Hare and it was wet or something and he spun out and decked a guardrail. the first two prior PO's did nothing about it, I at least hammered the deformities to a place where the tail lights were legible again. I have a decent good used rear quarter for this grafting project if you want it. I also have a rear panel (where the tail lights go) that is decent, at least better than whats on the car now. Can you tell I have been scavenging for parts to fix her? BUT wait there's MORE! Convertible top is newer that being probably 10-12 years old by now, but is in great condition (the white parts). convertible top frame has wear but is totally functional , you can see out the back window if you wanted to but that's kind of hard because the mirror is off the rear view mount :) wipers work, two speed, but the rubber is dried out. radio antenna mysteriously came off when my 7 year old didn't touch it. Interior: carpet shot, passenger seat vinyl shot, drivers seat, well.. it looks okay, but it doesn't feel ok. lets say it works. seats mechanisms work, seat levers flip top section forward well. back seat bottom and back seat back good. door panels, intact but a little wrinkly and curled at the edges. door hardware yellowed, chrome somewhat pitted, parade cover good to okay. ash trays have no ash, maybe some bubble gum residue though. glove box interior was fine until someone thought it was a good idea to but the red paint touch up bottle inside and let it melt. glove box door closes. main ash tray cushion front is off, I think I have that part saved though (need to double check that) door locks work, windows go up and down, they are floppy though, and rattly. Yeah, there is little to no useful weatherstripping anywhere, its dried out, brittle, etc. glass is okay there is a chip on the passenger main glass at the top edge, its hard to see but its there. speedo works, believe it, gas gauge works idiot lights work.radio does not, not original its a 65-66 style and it used to work off and on now not at all. hi/lo beam on floor works, forward vents work. flashers work, turn signal mechanism is broken, you have to hold it to turn (i think its left), the right side will cancel though, it might be the other way around. common problem, horn works, sounds better than my truck. ignition works, although I don't like how I can remove the key while its running. come with keys. no clock in the middle :( Mechanical: Unknown mileage history on transplanted engine. Engine like I said is not original, but it didn't stop me from having the shrouds, crossover and snorkel professionally powder coated and most all the hardware (screws and bolts) re-plated. engine is 65-66. I rebuilt the carbs, blew out the gas lines front to back, new electric gas pump, mechanical fuel pump blocked off. new sending unit, gas tank was POR15'd by yours truly all new gaskets and hoses finish off the fuel rehab I did that probably in 09. newer fan belt, no extras. runs fine. I have a year correct 69 110hp with 19,000 original miles (stamped 1112) than ran when removed from that car, this is NOT part of this sale but it is here if you are interested in a year correct engine. I have the matching powerglide too if that matters to anyone besides me, again NOT part of the sale but here if interested. Also have a year correct 140 block that is split, at the moment, and would require total reassembly and machining by a mechanic type of guy, no trans with that split block, and again NOT part of this sale unless you have an interest. Can discuss further. Back to the car, transmission works fine, fixed the notorious broken "e" clip in the valve body when I first bought it and it replaced with good used TC and flex plate. Never managed to adjust the trans just right, and it surges between shifts 1 and 2. Kind of annoying but its only a valve adjustment, just haven't been able to nail that one down, cooling damper doors work great Brakes: all fine, left (drivers) front wheel cylinder is a little tight and touchy after it sits for awhile, it'll clunk a little but goes away right away. replaced brake fluid when I did the gas tank overhaul, i also replaced the brake line that goes over the gas tank just because that is good thing to do from what I read, the better brake line style too from Clark's. Suspension: red riders on the front, must have been replaced at one time they still suck though, sway bar bushings replaced at gas tank overhaul. remaining components likely stock and original. car rides fine, but I'm sure if it was all rehabbed it would be totally different, oh hum... someday... someday I hope. Tires/Wheels: round, black, holds air, tread good, dislike the RWL's but hey they work. Tires are older, no dry rot, they are radial, and I have the receipt for them, just can't remember how old. traction is good to decent, I'm never afraid to throw her around a corner, the best part of a corvair is whipping a corner, it's so awesome. tires are not 180's or 185's i think they are 195's Electrical: far as I can tell no dry rot, no bad fuses, everything works (radio does not), side markers are intermittent only because of rear quarter damage, starter and solenoid good, alternator good, plugs and wires good, timing is spot on, perfect. the battery is a couple of years old, it came from O'Reilly if that matters any. Misc: have cocktail shakers for engine compartment out of car, took out when I doctored the rear quarters, couldn't put back in, no mounting available. comes with a spare tire handle and an extra rim, no jack. have a nice used rear grill for below the rear bumper. Original rear bumper was mangled, I took it off, have another one I think somewhere, I'll dig it out and it can go with the car too. leaks oil, go figure. The main seal between the bell-housing and transmission being the suspected culprit. Oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets are tight. Gasket between back of engine and the oiler/distributor housing leaks a little, nothing that a little rag wiping can't resolve on occasion. Fan belt top shroud bearing was replaced, along with new gasket. Exhaust pipe donuts and muffler hanger are new (newer). email me @ fs_1969.0242@yahoo.com to obtain a hyperlink to a 100+ picture gallery of the car, pretty thorough survey. I can add pics to buyer photo requests too. I'm more than happy to aid and assist with third party transporters. Car will make it onto a trailer, car condition report by transporter will be entertaining to fill out. questions, comments, analysis, recommendations, hearsay, conjuncture, and concerns can be sent to fs_1969.0242@yahoo.com and I will check twice daily to respond to potential bidders and buyers. Did I mention that there are FEWER than 521 ever produced by Chevrolet! hand slaps on cheek! REALLY! get into one today there almost all gone. Did you know there are fewer than 114 that care anymore? Why not be apart of an exclusive club of obscure car enthusiasts! Its the new thing in old car collecting, your missing out. just trying to jazz up the mundane car ad, i'm pretty normal, just a bit sarcastic sometimes, generally normal. some in the 69 club could verify that, just ask John. the reserve has four numbers and no cents, and is lower then the number of half your digits on one hand, I think I'm being reasonable with it, if we get close, and if eBay policy allows it, I'll lower it to meet the bidding demand. So, yes, I really want it gone, and I really do want it to sell, but I can't take a total bath either. I will not terminate the auction for a side-liner. Happy Bidding.
