Vehicle Detail

NOTE!! This is a NO RESERVE auction, the winner will be the new owner of this vehicle!! This listing is for a 1963 Austin Healey 3000 Mk. II BJ7 convertible which I am selling for a friend. The car is a BARN FIND, or, more correctly, a GARAGE FIND, in that the car has been stored in a garage and has not seen the light of day for 30 years. It was overjoyed to be outside for these pictures and looks forward to a new owner who will restore it and put it back on the road! This Austin Healey is a three owner car. The original owner, who bought the car new in Florida in1963, was an airline stewardess (as they were then called). In 1976, the car was bought by its second owner, a man who brought it to Chicago. In 1979, the third and current owner, also in Chicago, bought the car with the intention of restoring it. Other vintage car projects and work got in the way, and the car went from "restoring" to "storing" status. This Austin Healey was a running, drivable car when put into storage. It is mostly original and has a six cylinder twin carburetor engine and a four speed manual transmission with electric overdrive. The Colorado Red was repainted sometime prior to 1976. The car still maintains its original top with tonneau cover and also has five wire wheels, a heater, windshield washers, front seatbelts, and its original spare tire. Its set of Michelin tires was virtually new at the time of storage. They seem to still be in excellent condition. The red vinyl interior is original. The car has 29,175 miles showing on the odometer and also listed officially on the title. Restoration got as far as stripping and priming the trunk lid, putting new brake pads on the front wheels and locating some NOS replacement parts which are included with the car. Parts included are various gaskets, a NOS black top, a NOS muffler, NOS front turn signal assemblies with lenses, an extra roof handle, a side view mirror and a 1970s reissued shop manual. There are a few parts that are missing such as the front bumper guards, the rubber gas pedal pad, the center armrest cushion, part of the interior door panels and the trunk prop rod. The floor boards appear to be solid, except for one rusted area in the trunk. With a good battery, I made sure the engine would turn over but I did not attempt to start the car. This car is being sold as is with no warranty implied. The car can be picked up on the northwest side of Chicago or shipping can be arranged through UShip or your favorite auto transport company. I can furnish recommendations if you wish. Payment will be made by cashier’s check within one week of the end of the auction. Happy bidding! On Jul-23-14 at 00:19:13 PDT, seller added the following information: There have been some questions about the rust situation of the undercarriage. Here is some additional information. The frame is solid. The frame maintains most of its black paint, where the paint is off, there is some surface rust. The floorboards are also painted black, and retain most of their paint, but, there is some surface rust, as one should expect on a 51 year old unrestored car. The floorboards appear to be solid except for the rusted area in the trunk, which is at the very back (towards the bumper) of the trunk. This area is irregular in shape, is about 12 inches long, maybe two inches wide for the most part, but widens to five inches at one spot. It is rusted through. There is also a rusted through area in the floorboard on the driver's side, immediately in front of the heat shield. This would be near where the driver's legs are. This rusted area is about nine inches long and maybe two inches at its widest. I'm pretty certain that the undercarriage is factory original. Black paint, not red paint. It doesn't look like anybody has added any type of undercoating.
