Vehicle Detail

You are looking at a NOT RUNNING 1971 Lotus Elan + 2 "S" that needs a complete restoration. This car wears a United Kingdom number (license) plate SCL697K ; this plate's code denotes location as NORWICH and date codes as AUGUST 1971 to JULY 1972 (C ='s Norwich and K ='s 8/'71 to 7/'72. NORWICH is the location of the Lotus factory for this car. Documents found in the glove box of this car, that will be included with the sale, indicate that the car was owned by a U.S. Army serviceman living and serving in Great Britain at the time of the number plate dates and the city code indicates that the car was first put in service (at the factory?) in Norwich. This Plus 2 "S" is a Federal (U.S.) model. There are also a number of items (documents, papers, letters, addressed envelopes, bills etc.) from the glove box that support the purchase/ownership theory with the original owner's name and address both in the U.K. and the U.S. Attached PHOTOS display the car's condition. The wires throughout the car are flexible and not cracked or broken. This car had a sunroof that is gone but comes with a complete roof (see photos) from a donor car, that was cut off at the windshield posts and sail panels. The car seems to have never been registered in the U.S. - there is no indication of a U.S. license plate or frame having ever been on the car and there is no indication of a window registration sticker ever having been on any of the glass. This car was stored away for many years and may have never been used in the U.S. Photos include shots of inside the Engine - oil pan removed- showing the crankshaft, connecting rod ends, 2 lower piston edges - the bottom end - in pristine condition. I have not turned the engine. I have put penetrating oil in the cylinders and it seeps into the oil pan. Prying with a lever on the main pulley bolt and with a hand up into the cylinders the Pistons DO move a bit. The person I bought the car from attempted to turn the engine also and it seems he forced the Timing chain into a Locked position. I do not want to force things. My plan was to remove the head in order to proceed with the engine but circumstance and other plans have prevented that. The suspension uprights are sound and NOT RUSTED THROUGH! There are 2 photos of the front left and front right frame rails behind the wheels where the outer edge of the frame's edge is rusted - about 1/2 inch back by about 2 inches along the outside edge of the frame rail - a very easy fix. The balance of the frame and backbone chassis is solid with only surface rust. Parts removed from the car - 4 calipers (2 front and 2 rear), grille, air horns, original air filter housing, rear mud shield, steering column lock and whatever else will be included with the car. The ENGINE BLOCK AND TWIN CAM HEAD alone are worth a lot of $$ not to mention the value of the car's TRANSMISSION and other parts. Parted out this car has more $$ value than I will take for it! But I do not want to part it! I had plans on re-doing this plus 2 "S" when I obtained it about a year and a half ago and in between now and then other things have come up and now my storage has to change. Ask Questions if you have any and I will also consider offers.
