Vehicle Detail

Thank you for your interest in my auction. I bought this very original, unmolested, 1979 Fiat 2000 Spider in September of 2012 when I lived in Melrose, Florida. The car was part of a small garaged collection owned by an elderly gentleman who lived about 100 miles south of me. He told me he bought it locally at an estate sale. The car came with documentation confirming its mileage of 42,237 miles and its original delivery to a woman in Alabama. She had no rust, low mileage, factory power windows, factory air conditioning, and 4-wheel disk brakes, and I drove her home without any trouble. Later, I drove her 400 miles from Florida to Georgia, where I now live, again without any problems at all. In fact, she has been a weekly, if not daily, driver for me ever since, and she has never let me down. I am a member of the West Georgia chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America and regularly show her off at local car shows. All she needed once I got her home was a sympathetic restoration - the timing belt was immediately replaced as were the a/c and alternator belts. The oil and oil filter were replaced, the rubber flex disk "donut" in the drive shaft was replaced, and all the brake calipers and hoses were replaced. The brake fluid was replaced and the system bled. A new thermostat, water pump and hoses, coolant, air filter, and spark plugs and wires were installed as were the rotor and distributor cap. The valves were professionally adjusted by a Fiat specialist. All the tie rod ends were replaced. New sun visors were installed as was a new battery. The steering box was adjusted and its fluid replenished. The gearbox and rear axle oil were drained and renewed. A minor exhaust manifold leak was repaired by installing new gaskets. New rubber window seals were installed along with a missing exhaust hanger bracket. The plastic over the clock (which keeps perfect time) had grown foggy as they all do and was replaced with glass. The new relay was installed for the a/c, and it was recharged with Freon. It worked perfectly, but now needs its Freon replenished, a matter I have not addressed because I so seldom drive her with the top up. Additional improvements were made in the years I have owned her - the radiator was replaced with a state-of-the-art aluminum model with an electric fan from Vick Autosports, not because she ever overheated, she never did, but because the old radiator (available) sprung a tiny leak. The stock Weber carburetor was replaced with a new 32/36 DFEV unit which, along with cleaning up the anti-pollution system, increased the power substantially. The air cleaner was replaced with a smaller, better looking one (but all the original parts come with the car). The stock steering wheel (also available) was replaced with a gorgeous wooden "Nardi" wheel, and the stock headlights were replaced with halogen. New custom floor mats were installed. The car has been consistently garaged and remains rust-free. She starts immediately every time and runs beautifully. The gearbox works smoothly and perfectly. The body is straight and has no evidence of ever having been damaged. The paint is shiny and good with the nicks and touch-ups you might expect in a 35 year-old that is regularly driven. The gauges all work perfectly. The original radio works. The power windows work well but the passenger side is a little weak, and I usually help it by hand a little. The chrome is very good. The seats, dashboard, and tonneau are all in excellent condition. The top, although believed to be original, is excellent. The car comes with its original tool kit, jack, and handbook. I appreciate that you are buying a 35 year old Italian sports car, maybe sight unseen. I've tried to give a full description but have undoubtedly left something out. Please feel free to inspect the car or ask questions. I have a clear Georgia title and a bucket of receipts. The only reason I am selling this car is because I picked up a 1964 Morgan 4/4 Competition - one of the cars on my automotive "bucket list," and I just don't have the ability, as much as I'd like to, to keep both. Thank you and happy bidding.
