Vehicle Detail
1978 BMW R 100S A beautiful classic S airhead, that is mechanically and cosmetically excellent. The bike is mostly original and even though it has been stored for a number of years it has been in the dry Nevada climate. Some items had to be replaced due to age, neglect and normal wear and tear, such as all of the normal maintenance items, new Westco AGM battery, all fluids, filters, needed seals and gaskets. The bike has a fresh paint job with beautiful hand striping applied over the clear coat per the original process. We replaced the missing voltmeter and clock with new VDO units. Not new and not perfectly original but an updated beauty. Some rubber and plastic pieces, bump stops, carburetor intake tubes BMW badges, cable boots, grips, fuel line, fuel filters, are new from BMW. Because it had been dormant so long we went through the entire bike to insure performance and safety. The engine received a fresh top end including new rings, and all new gaskets, push rod seals, etc. A complete tune up, new plugs, plug wires, NGK 5 OHM caps. The motor got a new rear main seal, oil pump seal, and of course inspected, cleaned, and lubed all the splines. A complete tune up included carburetor rebuild with new parts, including floats and diaphragms. Since the transmission was out for inspection, we replaced the parts that wear with new, shifting springs, output shaft bearing, gear bushing, seals and gaskets. Then polished the selector shaft to insure smooth shifting, correctly shimmed input, lay and output shafts and reassembled. New drive shaft boot installed also, checked, cleaned and lubed all driveline splines. New BMW front brake master cylinder rebuild kit, brake fluid and brakes bled. All 3 Brake rotors good and within specifications, .1960 to .1968 in. (5mm) The bike runs like it should, smooth, powerful, and quiet. The lighting all works, switches work as they should. All instruments work, speedometer, odometer, brake lights, and turn signals. The bike has a Brown Side Stand, also an aftermarket Corbin seat that has been freshly recovered. Since the work last fall and winter, I have put approximately 400 miles on it and use it regularly. There are no known mechanical issues, the bike runs and handles like it is supposed to, nice and tight with no leaks. Included are multiple pictures to show as accurately as possible the exact condition of the bike. The winning bidder is asked to transfer a $500 non-refundable deposit via PayPal, and begin making arrangements for payment with me, within 72 hours of the auctions end.
