Vehicle Detail

This is a 1982 Honda XR200 trail bike that the original owner purchased in mid ’82 for his wife to ride, but she turned out not to like trail riding, so I purchased it from him in late ’82 and have had it ever since. So it is practically a one-owner bike for which I have a clear title in my name. My son rode it on the trails in the mountains north of Los Angeles and in the Mojave Desert for about four years. He then went off to college and decided he was more interested in girls than in trail bikes. After that, my daughter rode it two or three times, but already didn’t live at home any more and just never got involved in riding. So it has sat in my garage since then, and I have no kids left who are ever going to ride it, so it’s time for it to get a new home. The California off-road sticker on it expired in June, ’97, so it has had a nice long rest. The motor always ran fine, didn’t leak or burn oil, and has never been apart. The bike has never been raced, and not really ever ridden very hard. The most serious problem we ever had with it was a flat tire. It currently isn’t running because I let gas sit in it too long and the carburetor got gummed up. I took it apart and cleaned it up and did get the bike to start, but it didn’t run right and I just never got back to it. So either I screwed up in putting it back together – not likely because it’s a simple Mikuni carb - or I failed to get some jet or airway cleaned out, which is most likely. The bike shows the usual dings and soil from trail use, and there is a couple of tears in the seat that I have covered with electrical tape, as seen in the pictures, but otherwise, as far as I can see, has no damage done, either inside or externally. I replaced the original steel gas tank with a Don Vesco 2.5 gallon (3 gallon?) plastic tank for greater range, which is shown on the bike. The original tank, shown in the pictures, is in practically brand new condition and will go with the bike if the buyer wants it. The engine oil is fresh and the air cleaner element is new, so it’s ready to go once the carb problem gets sorted out. The mileage figure I have entered is obviously phony, but the bike doesn't have a speedometer and ebay required a number for this category. The bike is located in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, but I will deliver it locally if desired.
