Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on one very special BODY OFF RESTORATION Datsun 1600 Roadster. MATCHING NUMBERS CAR. NC car all it's life. NO RUST. CLEAN NC TITLE. This was a restoration started in the late 1970's by a meticulous local NC District Judge who bought the car from the original owner in 1970, drove it to Chapel Hill Law School, then started the restoration in the late seventies. He had the engine rebuilt by JV Raines from Junior Johnson's shop back in 1994 and completed all the frame work around the same time. EVERYTHING was taken apart, right down to the wiring harness. I am in touch with him. I have tons of notes and documentation that he created during the restoration. BRAND NEW: Exhaust front to back($175.00), Gear Reduction Starter, 1/2" Flange Thermal Coated Header and Flex Pipe($582.20). Brand new top just professionally installed($519.36). Only things left to do are run water lines to heater core (which is brand new and VERY expensive), and replace temperature sending unit and put the last few bits of trim/emblems back on. I acquired the car a couple of years ago from indoor storage and finished the final assembly and got it back on the road. Runs good, drives good, no issues. The only sub-par job was the paint. No evidence of filler except on left side of rear panel, however, the block sanding was not done so well over the entire car. Does the paint look awesome??? Yes, is it perfect?? No. Some panels could use a final wet sand to make them pop more and there are imperfections in the base primer from what appears to have been a lackluster block sanding job. Overall, it looks good, hard to get the imperfections to show up on camera, but they are there. The guy who did the body and paint work also did some "custom" things. The joints between cowl and fenders were filled in and the jack access holes were filled in as well. The rear bumper has a little surface rust and a place where it has some small dents towards the left side. Front bumper has some surface rust. All electrical working except I did not hook up the rear license lamp yet. Basically everything is new except for the transmission and rear end which are both original and in good running condition. It has the original interior, which is in pretty good shape. I would replace the vinyl parts and carpet if you want perfection. I have the firewall cardboard separator and the vinyl trim that goes underneath the dash. I also have the rear trim, hood trim piece that goes over air intake, but do not have the Datsun letters that go on the front of the hood and TONS of other trim for it. The hood latch accepting base is there, just not in photos. I also have the washer bottle which was not installed at time of photo. All the HVAC controls, springs, hoses are there and brand new, just need to be hooked up once you run the water to the heater core. I WILL HAVE VIDEO OF CAR DRIVING AND ENGINE COMPRESSION NUMBERS UP TOMORROW AS WELL AS ENGINE SERIAL NUMBERS. TONS OF PHOTOS AND VIDEO AT BOTTOM OF LISTING. CLICK ON THE VIEW ALL LINK TO BE DIRECTED TO THE HOSTING SITE FOR BIGGER AND HIGHER QUALITY PHOTOS. ENGINE: I WILL HAVE COMPRESSION NUMBERS TOMORROW. Runs great, no leaks, no issues whatsoever. The carbs have been tuned by me, but could stand one of those SU magicians to get them perfect. I have the instructional videos, etc, but I am not as good as I would like to be. New floats have been installed in carbs. Radiator was re-cored and tested. TRANSMISSION: Clutch is great car shifts well. No leaks, no issues. CHASSIS: Brakes work great. All bushings were replaced. Racing front sway bar. Car drives and handles great. Nice and tight. The battery area which ALWAYS goes on these was removed down to good metal and new metal was welded in. Battery box was moved rearward to allow larger battery to be installed. Chassis is rust free and solid as it can be. Tires are Michelin X Radials. 185/70-14. Good tread. One tire is a Michelin Destination Radial in similar condition. ELECTRICAL: Everything working except license rear lamp. I did not get around to hooking it up. The original oil pressure gauge was replaced with a similar looking aftermarket type as the original style connection is VERY expensive if you can find it. I have an original oil pressure gauge if buyer is interested, but I do not have the special cable/hose connector for it. BODY: All weatherstripping is new. New top, professionally installed. Yes I have the spring plates for the inside that adjust the top. Glass in good condition. Windshield sills are FREE OF RUST, most of these cars have issues in this area. Not this one, see photos. The original owner did damage the rear left of the car by backing into a power pole but not at a very high rate of speed, but enough to inflict some damage. Just to make sure, the Judge had the car professionally repaired and replaced the rear most frame cross member just in case, so that the job was done correctly and everything lined up properly. Otherwise, the body panels are solid and free of dents, rust, etc. The only filler I have found is in the rear valance panel on the left side, probably from the damage repair from back in the 1970's. Some of the chrome around the windshield could use some polishing, but all is solid. The top needs two snaps put on that hold the bar that goes above the rear window and four snaps put onto the top itself. I have all the hardware and mounting posts that go onto the body for the four snaps on the top. I did not have enough top to body plastic washers at the time, so they got left off. Easy fix. INTERIOR: Original and in good driver quality shape. Most of the vinyl pieces are old and need replacing, but for a driver they work fine, nothing too terrible. If you want perfection, you can get a complete interior vinyl kit. They are VERY easy to install. Seats in good shape except one small split in driver seat. WHAT WOULD I DO: Replace temperature sending unit and enjoy this thing. Run water lines to heater core and hook-up HVAC hoses and controls. I have all the stuff to complete, all new, ready to go. On Jun-20-14 at 09:28:10 PDT, seller added the following information: The dash has some hairline cracks on the top. I included extra pics showing so in the photobucket link. The spare tire is original and there, will get a photo of trunk with tire and jack later today. ENGINE COMPRESSION NUMBERS ARE 130PSI COLD...across the board. The battery was a little weak, so the number is probably higher, but all cylinders are even PSI. I WILL ADD VIDEO OF CAR DRIVING LATER TODAY 6-20-14. Thanks for your patience, I got tied up yesterday and will have all details finished up by tonight. On Jun-20-14 at 10:50:51 PDT, seller added the following information: The sentence that says I do not have the Datsun letters for the hood, should read after that that I DO have tons of other trim that goes with the car.On Jun-20-14 at 19:45:03 PDT, seller added the following information: I scanned pictures of the title for the car. This is a two owner car. Title is from 1976. Driving video is up. Enjoy. On Jun-24-14 at 11:25:19 PDT, seller added the following information: You may have to use a regular computer to view the extra photos at the bottom of listing. I'm not a computer expert but did notice that I cannot view them on the mobile site.
