Vehicle Detail
I bought this back in the early 90's out of the upstairs of a barn. It was amazing shape for the price and era. I gave it to my dad, who did a lot to make it drivable and reliable. It is a 1948 CJ 2A , commercial jeep. It has 35,946 miles on it. The motor has been professionally rebuilt by a local machine shop with a great reputation. It got new pistons, rings, bearings, valves, and a better used crank (magnafluxed to check for cracks). Lots new. new coil, whole new brake system (stock), exhaust, seats professionally recovered, military style canvas top, military style tires, turn signals installed for road driving, and lots of stuff that he can't even recall. Rust spot just starting under right rear taillight. That's the only spot. Floors are solid. Fuel tank was redone. All gauges work properly. It is stored inside since he has owned it. Fussy to start, once you know how to set the choke, it's easy, just like all older stuff. Occasionally, when you start it, you can not get it in gear, despite throwing out the clutch. Once you drive it just a little bit, it's fine. I suspect the clutch plate is sticking due to lack of use. (It did get a flywheel cut and new clutch back when it was rebuilt.) Rear tailgate was removed and a panel welded in to make a solid rear for mounting the tire and gas can . Dad being 90 now, it gets very little use. I am a big guy and it is hard for me to get in and out of , so here it is. Runs and drives down the road just fine. You can drive it home or trailer it, your choice. Clean PA title. Can ship locally/regionally for a fee. Prefer pickup. On Jun-17-14 at 14:11:02 PDT, seller added the following information: Drove it home today from my dad's. It has an odd little rattle underneath, trying to locate. Light, tinny sound, suspect loose exhaust hanger . (he recalls the exhaust being snug at one turn with the body.) I also suspect it could be a pressure plate, hence the clutch thing. Once it warmed up, though it drove great, shifted nicely. Also noticed some old long ago metal patches on floor. Sections welded in. Looks good and from top can't see. Mentioning it to be up front . Again, buy will get to full inspect , crawl under, over and drive, etc prior to sealing deal.
