Vehicle Detail

INTRODUCTION AND DESCRIPTIONYou are viewing my 1976 Lincoln Mark IV. This Mark IV has the 460-4V (7.5L) V8 engine, the C6 three-speed automatic transmission, and the standard 2.75:1 rear differential. It is finished in Silver Metallic "Diamond Flare" finish (a premium metallic paint option, code 1J), with factory-installed "moonroof" with Silver vinyl half-roof, red leather seating surfaces, and has the "deep-dish" polished aluminum wheels. I am the second owner of this Mark IV, having purchased it in 1998 from the original owner, The vehicle has just under 47,000 original miles but the documentation of this is minimal. The pictures were taken March 2014, and I have alternated the first few photos between sun and shade to show the vehicle finish details (shiny exterior, gleaming wheels. etc.,) more clearly. If you are interested in this car at all, you probably already know what it is so I will skip all the historical notations save a quick reminder. Recall 1976 was last model year of the Mark IV series (1972 to 1976) before giving way to the Mark V’s in 1977 (the “knife-edge” designs). The classic “long hood, short deck” profile, impressive front grille, and the iconic “tire-hump” in back made it something to behold on the road. Well-equipped from the factory with a host of standard luxury, performance, and safety features, the Mark IV was the ultimate in American-made personal luxury coupes back in their day. Speaking of standard equipment (working fine unless noted), the only engine available in the 1976 Mark IVs was the 460 cubic-inch V8. Other notable standard features were four wheel, power disc brakes, power steering, power windows and seats, automatic temperature control AC, cut-pile carpeting, remote driver mirror, Landau vinyl roof, chrome rocker moldings, advanced sound-quieting materials, carpeted trunk, and additional dash panel instrumentation. This car of course has all that. Optional features (working fine unless noted) on this Mark IV are the power glass moonroof, forged aluminum wheels, power locks (a bit sluggish), power remote trunk release, rear window defroster (not working), tilt steering column, interval wipers, power antenna, reclining passenger seat, and the AM/FM “Quadrasonic-8” eight track Stereo system. Everything else on the car works except the clock. This Mark IV runs and drives fine. Smooth, quiet, and powerful, the big 460 effortlessly moves this Mark down the road and up to speed. If you have owned or still do own one of these cars, you know at highway speeds you always have to watch the speedo…it hardly seems you are going a fast as you are. The factory single exhaust is new. The original carburetor was rebuilt in 2009. The tires are Michelin 235/75-15 radials, an older vintage tire but still in very good shape. The leather seats only have superficial age-related cracking (on the driver side in particular) but no seams are split, the dash and headliner are in exceptional condition, and the original plush carpet is fully intact. The door panel leather pull straps have the typical cracking but otherwise are intact. The steering wheel is in perfect condition (the leather grip will be removed) with no cracks or other defects. The first owner refinished this Mark in its original color in 1987. It was a professional job and has held up very well all these years as this Mark has spent most of its time indoors for the past 27 years. The Diamond Flare formula really "pops" in the sun as you can see, and even has brilliance (not just shine) in the shade. There is no sheet metal, floorpan, trunk pan, or frame rust or rust repair of any kind on the vehicle that i could determine (you can stick a magnet on it anywhere). The chrome (minor "patina" is evident on some of the brightwork in the form scuffing, scratches, and pitting) and glass are in very good to excellent shape on a basis consistent with the age of the vehicle. The driver side parking light bezel is broken and will be replaced. There is some separation of the vinyl roof from the lower molding along the passenger side that will be repaired (a four inch section the edge piping under the trim band will be replaced). This Lincoln Mark IV is simply a fine remaining example of a bygone era of personal luxury motoring. As a personal luxury coupe, it was at the head of the class, bristling with performance and safety features that were among the state-of-the-art of any American-built vehicles at the time. This one in particular, finished in Silver Metallic Diamond Flare, and with the "bling" of the brightwork and the factory polished aluminum wheels, can still turn a few heads on the road. For for those of us who knew of and drove/rode in these Marks when they were new, moonroof open to the sky, effortlessly floating along the highways and byways on our $0.60 cents-per-gallon gasoline...well the best parts of those memories can still be enjoyed today as long as these exceptional vehicles continue to be preserved.I sure hope my Mark finds a good home with a new owner who appreciates it as much as its previous two caretakers.AUCTION SUCCESS CONSIDERATIONS I have established a reasonable reserve (reserve will not be revealed while the auction is running) and a BIN for this 1976 Lincoln Mark IV. Please consider bidding during the auction to the extent and level you deem appropriate and based on whatever factors are important to you. Note that I reserve the right to end this auction at any time at my sole discretion. If not sold or reserve is not met, I may provide Second Chance Offers (SCO) through the Ebay system, but note that this is only possible with people who actually bid during the auction. If you get a SCO (which is a Buy-It-Now auction that only the seller and the bidder to whom it was sent can access), it will only come through, the Ebay system (meaning it will appear in your Ebay mailbox) and it will be for a 24-hour duration. Depending on where the recorded bidding ends, and if the reserve is not met, I may also write the high bidder(s) through the Ebay system only, one at a time in the order of their final recorded bids, to discuss the item. If I do not hear back from a bidder within 24 hours after writing them, I will assume that person is not interested and I may move on to the next person. Please BE SURE BEFORE YOU BID that you have done whatever you need to do to STAND BEHIND the actual bid(s) YOU MADE and were recorded during the auction. Stated another way, if you are not seriously interested or if for whatever reason you are not or expect you will not become fully committed to complete a purchase if you should win this item, please devote your time and attention to some other auction that meets all your requirements. Because of a tendency to simply misunderstand or just outright ignore Ebay and seller auction requirements, bidders with less than 5 (five) feedback ratings may, at my discretion have their bids canceled (I may or may not try to contact you before canceling your bid) and then blocked from further bidding on this auction unless they contact me in advance of bidding. Bidders who make and then cancel their bid(s) will also be blocked from further bidding on this auction.Bidders outside the continental United States are welcome to bid but also must email me before bidding to discuss important payment and shipping procedures. INSPECTION AND WARRANTY INFORMATIONPlease ask any questions that you may have that may not have been answered by this detailed listing narrative and visual media attachments. My listings are constructed in complete sentences in order to communicate my knowledge of important facts and to encourage independent thoughts and then any questions from interested parties. But respectfully, I do not know what is important to you that may not have been discussed or depicted herein unless you ask me. Any and all relevant and appropriate questions you submit while the auction is running will be answered promptly and as thoroughly as possible by email only to ensure clarity of any correspondences. Given that this is a used vehicle, please do not have unreasonable expectations as to its current condition or future condition under your ownership. Also given its obvious age, this vehicle represents whatever standards of quality and workmanship that existed when it was built, so comparisons to improved build standards of today's vehicles is not appropriate. Please make all pre-purchase inspections (at the sole expense of the bidder) before committing to purchase the vehicle. Inspections can be done by appointment only by you or your designated inspection service. Although I believe I have described and depicted (with high-resolution media) this vehicle accurately, please note that this vehicle is sold "as-is, where-is” with no express or implied warranties or guarantees of any kind.PAYMENT AND STORAGEA $500 deposit is required from the winning bidder, due electronically via PayPal within 24 hours after the auction ends, to hold the vehicle.
