Vehicle Detail

1960 IMPERIAL CROWN“America’s most carefully built car”(Imperial’s 1960 advertising slogan) History Car has been stored in a garage since it was last driven in 1982 by the previous owner. I have not tried to start the car. It appears to have been stored properly. All the fluids are full and clear. The engine was not “frozen” when I got the car. Interesting Features Elliptical Steering Wheel: New in 1960 was the elliptical steering wheel. The unique shape of the wheel and spoke placement permits a full view of the instrument panel, while flattened upper and lower areas provide greater leg clearance and improved forward visibility for short people. (Motor Life Review, Nov. 1959) Glow-in-the-dark “Panelescent” Guages: Panelescent Panel Lighting achieves a soft uniform glow that illuminates the panel instruments without objectionable intensity or annoying glare. Light level is adjusted by means of a manually controlled knob. Panelescent lighting has no filaments or gases, but instead is composed of laminated layers of materials which glow when an alternating current is applied. The Panelescent is powered from a transistor oscillator, which connects the 12 volt D/C to 200 volts A/C at 250 cycles per second. (1960 Chrysler and Imperial Service Manual) Interior: Pearlescent leather and ribbed nylon interior. Very little rust because it has been garage kept. Trunk in good shape. This is an “Imperial” not a “Chrysler Imperial”. The Imperial was a separate product line (like Lincoln or Cadillac) from 1955 to 1975. This Imperial was part of the MOPAR “Finned” years (1955 – 1961). At almost 19 feet long with fins and rocket taillights this car will turn heads!
