Vehicle Detail

THIS CAR IS RE-LISTED because slvrcrk94627 did not pay the deposit and the transaction was cancelled. The same buyer, slvrcrk94627, did the same with another vehicle in Maryland only a few days earlier: he won a car auction and did not pay. EBay should take legal action against that buyer. Why eBay has not suspended him from the site is beyond me. Please bid only if you have the money and can take possession of this car within two weeks from auction end. The actions of slvrcrk94627 have forced me to write this preface to my listing description, but now let's take a look at my sexy little Geo Metro convertible! - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - I constantly get great compliments about this car. “Hey, that’s a cool car,” is usually followed by, “What is it?” True, there are not a lot of these sporty rascals left on the road. I call it my Hot Wheels car. This really is a fun, summer car. Well, grab yourself a frosty beverage and settle in to read my lengthy description of my vehicle. I bought this Geo Metro LSi convertible new on May 28, 1993, at Starling Chevrolet in Orlando, Florida. I have the window sticker and other purchase documents, including the ignition/door key knock-out. The original owner’s manual (and original plastic emergency key) is in its original gray leatherette folder in the glovebox. It’s been my driver for 21 years, and, even though during that time I’ve owned other cars, trucks, and motorcycles, it’s been my most dependable vehicle. It’s never been in an accident and has been garaged all its life, so the original white paint is still very shiny. It’s not perfect – there are minor dings, dents, and scratches here and there, the paint is beginning to bubble down where the door pillars meet the rocker moldings, probably the beginnings of some surface rust, but the little two-seater still looks fantastic. It has been a warm-weather car its entire life – we moved to California in 1998. The three (3) cylinder SOHC Electronic Fuel Injected engine starts right up every time and runs great. The engine is a replacement engine that was installed February of 2002 in Burbank when the car had about 150,000 miles. I do not know how many miles were on this used engine, but even if it had about 30,000 miles on it, then it would have about 115,000 on it now, much much less than the current odometer reading. (I think you Metro fanatics know the “30,000-mile Japanese used engine” story. By the way, it has nothing to do with smog tests – it is not required to pull a 30,000-mile engine in Japan. It has everything to do with the cost of owning a car and paying for the $2000 JCI compulsory tests after the three-year grace period that new cars get – it’s cheaper to turn in your entire car, not just the engine! Driving an average of 10,000 miles a year for three years gives you the “30,000-mile engine” that people talk about.) Intermittently, there is a faint smell of gas from the engine, but I cannot find any leaks: I replaced the rubber fuel line hose at the carb about two years ago. The clutch feels good. It has the 5-speed manual with overdrive transmission, so it gets great gas mileage. The shift/gear transitions are smooth. The gray cloth bucket seats are original and in very good shape with no rips or tears, although the driver seat fabric is slightly stretched. There is a hardly noticeable, very small stain on the passenger seat. This was always a non-smoking car (I don’t smoke), but some A-whole (sic) dropped a lit cigarette through the driver window when the window was slightly down while it was parked at the grocery store, so there is a very small, perfectly round, cigarette burn-hole in the driver seat. You would have seen an angry man that day. The gray carpet is original and without rips or tears, although it is pretty dirty/oily/worn around the driver heel-pad area, where your left foot rests. The car has always had floor mats. The black rubber shifter-boot is not torn or cracked. The dash is in fantastic condition – it is not cracked or faded. The door panels are in great condition – they are not torn or cracked. The passenger side sun visor is loose. I haven’t run the AC in a while, so I’ll guess it needs a charge. I replaced the original radio with a 200 watt (max) JVC AM/FM, CD player with front-side MP3 jack and put in four new Infinity speakers. It sounds great. The radio face is detachable and has a plastic carrying case. The JVC owner/instruction manual is in the glovebox. I do not have the original radio. The black convertible top is in great condition with no rips or tears and the plastic window is not cracked or yellowed, but has a few very small haze spots near the bottom and in the bottom corners. The large, three-piece plastic tonneau is not cracked. It fits and latches correctly over the top when the top is retracted. All the weatherstripping is in excellent shape. I replaced both trunk lid supports/struts in September of 2008, so the trunk lid stays up solid. The trunk-to-interior pass-thru valances are both in undamaged condition. The original 13” steel wheels and plastic wheel covers are gone. It’s upgraded with 15” diameter chromed Zenetti wheels. The chrome is in very good, shiny condition with some very minor pitting. I have a locking lug on each wheel – the lug key is in the trunk with a thin-wall lug wrench and small, center-cap pry tool. The tires are 195/50R15 low profile, front and rear. The windshield was replaced about ten years ago and has no cracks. The original door windows are tinted, and raise and lower as they should. The headlight plastic housings are very clear (not yellowed) and the rear tail light assembly is not sun bleached. Like any 21-year old car, there are squeaks and rattles, and as mentioned, there are very small dings, scratches, and dents on the car (please see all photos), the most obvious being the small rip in the corner of the front upper bumper and small crease in the adjoining fender. The car was parked at my condo and my ding-bat neighbor was parked next to me and backed up into the bumper. Instead of immediately stopping, he just kept on backing up. Only the upper part of the two-piece bumper was affected. That upper bumper can be easily repaired or replaced. I have a lot of receipts: The timing belt and catalytic converter were replaced in September of 2011, so it passes California smog tests and I would not need to do another California smog test until 2015. It has current California license tags until September of this year. The battery was replaced June 2012 at Sears and has a 48 month pro-rated warranty. The front brake pads and both front brake rotors were replaced last year June. It has power front disc with rear drum brakes. Here are random things that WORK CORRECTLY: Intermittent wipers Dome light Parking lights Headlights: Low-beam and High-beam Turn signals Brake lights License plate lamp Instrument cluster illumination HVAC fan: all speeds All gauges: Speedometer, tachometer, fuel, temperature Odometer and trip meter If there is one issue that might be annoying, it is that the driver door handle does not work from the outside only. It does, however, lock and open from the inside. I would imagine it would be a simple repair after the door interior panel is removed. Since this issue just recently happened, I’ve simply reached over from the passenger side to open the driver door (it’s a small car!), or I leave the driver window down, reach in, and use the interior door handle to open the door. That and the fact that I have two other cars has made me decide to sell my little Hot Wheels convertible. I just don’t have time to work on three cars right now. This is a fun, fuel efficient convertible and perfect for top-down, summer cruising! Other: Rack and pinion steering Driver-side air bag I have tried to describe my car as best as I possibly can. I’ve probably been overly detailed with the small amount of negatives, but you can clearly see that the positives of this very original vehicle, especially regarding the major components, far outweigh them.
