Vehicle Detail
This is a 40 year old vehicle. It needs a *little* bodywork, but much less than you imagine. It needs some reassembly. That's why it's priced so low. If there is interest, I will answer any questions, no matter how trivial, and will send infinite pics...I love VW's and love talking about them...I have gotten old and lazy, and that's why I need to sell my jewel. As with any 40 year old vehicle, there is good and bad: The Good part: Virtually ZERO rust (No fooling). It is RUST that destroys these old vehicles. A virtually rust-free 74 Beetle is a FIND, my friend! NEW floor pans. Four NEW fenders. Comes with a PLETHORA of new parts, ready to be installed, including: Two NEW bumpers and associated mounting rubber, Four NEW running boards, a NEW dashboard, NEW headliner, NEW carpet and padding, NEW CV joints and boots, NEW muffler, NEW quarter panels, NEW brakes and hardware, NEW visors, and all the little plastic and rubber doohickies I could find NEW. There are too many new parts to reasonably list or even to photograph. NEW parts alone cost me well over $1,000, but after five years, I have accepted the harsh reality: I am NEVER going to put this thing back into service again. It's rustproofed, with "new" enamel paint, but there are some dings from sitting in the garage for 5 years. It is daily driver decent looking as is, but could be made pristine with minimal touch-up work. I have owned this one since 1985. Comes with a spare USED 1600 engine, and many other USED parts as well, including several carburetors, a spare alternator, a number of distributers, etc. The Bad part: AS IS, and it needs to be reassembled. It is complete except for the windshield, and there is no back seat. Sounds bad, but a back seat in a classic Beetle is less useful than a screen door on a submarine. A Beetle is a two seater with extra seats that cannot be used. All the other pieces are here, except for a windshield and an occasional screw or washer. The engine is good, but will need a carburetor rebuild, new battery, etc, to get it going after five years. If you can't do such work yourself, you will NOT want to buy this car. Although this will be a GOLD MINE for the right person, it may well be WORTHLESS to a person unfamiliar with VW Beetles. I have not driven the car in five years, but I put countless man hours into bodywork, rustproofing, etc, then got too busy, and then got too old. It could happen to you, also. One of the tires currently only holds air for an hour or two (dry rotted). Will need to be towed or flatbedded. One door has spots of concrete splashed onto the new paint. I bumped the rear apron pulling it out of the garage, and that needs touchup. Please look at the pictures, and understand that pics always look better than real life. . . Seriously, it makes me feel bad that I have let this car go to waste for so long. I could make more $$$ off this thing, but I'm more interested in lightening my karmic load by finding it a good appreciative home. I have the title. It is clear, and it is in my name. Located in Bethune, SC. Please look before you buy...Seriously, your wife will divorce you if you buy a car that requires too much time... on the other hand, it IS a VW. There are other women out there... Seriously, though- ALL the parts are here: headlights, trim, window rubber. If there is interest, I will list, but show some interest. I know there is somebody out there who deserves this car.
