Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1967 Datsun 520 pickup truck. I have a clear Nevada title in my name for it. The prior owner replaced the J series engine with an L18 out of a later Datsun truck. The L18 is backed up with a 5 speed transmission with a new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, clutch master and slave cylinders. I had a head rebuilt including a valve job, larger valves installed, ported & polished and a racing grind done on the cam. A new head gasket and intake/exhaust gasket were put on as well as a new water pump, thermostat, alternator, electric fuel pump, 3 row Champion Cooling aluminum radiator and a rebuilt starter. The carburetor was rebuilt and the gas tank was professionally cleaned. A new blade style fuse block was added to reduce the load on the original tube style fuse block. New tail lights were put on along with new clear front turn signal lenses. The construction rear bumper was replaced with new bumperett’s and custom made brackets. The exterior handles, front bumper, hood ornament and 3 piece grille were all re-chromed. New tail gate chains with clear chain covers were installed. A new hood latch and cable were installed and an after market windshield washer bottle and pump were installed. The brake system had a complete overhaul. I replaced the brake cylinders, shoes, hoses, hardware and master cylinder. They work great and do not pull to one side or the other. The shocks and struts were replaced with new KYB G2’s and new urethane bushings were installed in the front suspension. When the bed was put back on all new hardware was used. The gauge cluster cover has very few scratches and looks nearly new. All the gauges work and I installed an aftermarket oil pressure gauge under the dash. I did not install a radio so the new owner can decide to go vintage or modern. I have a pair new JDM style exterior mirrors that will come with the truck. I didn’t install them so the new owner can decide to mount them on the doors or the fenders. The interior was redone with a completely restored bench sent not just recovered but all new burlap and padding. I installed 3 sets of modern lap belts for safety. The door cards were made from scratch and a new carpet was located and installed after the floor pans were rust encapsulated and covered with sound deadening material. A new custom headliner was also installed, as well as, new door weather stripping. New window channel felt was installed as well. The steering wheel was given a new wrap and new pedal pads were put on as well. The truck was hand sanded to bare metal as to reduce the chance for the panels to warp. Overall the body had very little rust amounting to four small spots that were cut out and new metal welded in. The body and bed are not dead straight as I do not believe in skim coating a vehicle (no offense to Chip Foose) for the sake of making it look perfect. It is a good honest little truck and has some waves and imperfections in the body but is a solid 8-9 all day long. An etching primer was laid down and then a sealer primer prior to painting it the original Datsun 562 paint color. It was applied in base coat clear coat and color sanded and buffed to a high shine. There are a few small blemishes in the paint as well as a couple chips in the top of the door channels but they are hardly noticeable. The truck runs great and shifts beautifully. It cruises on the freeway at 70-75 with ease with no drifting, puling or shacking in the front end. There are some small issues with the truck. The front and rear glass wasn’t removed for paint. The new weather stripping for this glass is available but the glass isn’t and I didn’t want to risk breaking the glass. Therefore the rubber is a bit cracked and dry but does not leak. The wing windows were not removed for the same reason so the chrome is a bit pitted and the rubber is dry and worn. The engine compartment was just taped off and sprayed with an undercoating not painted with the truck. The driver’s door either needs to be shut really hard or either window needs to be down in order to latch the door. This is due to the new weather stripping. As it wears in the door should become easier to shut. The emergency brake pivot is seized and will need replaced so the emergency brake can operate properly. The cables are all good and will work fine once the pivot is replaced. The glass is in good shape for being 47 years old but it does have some scratches and the windshield has a couple small chips but no cracks and the chips do not impair the view. The exhaust wasn’t replaced but it is in good shape with no holes but does has surface rust and doesn’t exit out the back instead it exits just over the rear differential on the passenger rear area. The front turn signal assembly’s are missing the stainless trim and the rubber gaskets are cracked and dry. I have tried to be as comprehensive in listing the condition of this truck as you can tell by the lengthy description. Please feel free to ask any specific question you might have and happy bidding!!
