Vehicle Detail

Please note: The actual millage of this truck is about 200-300 mile over what is indicated on the odometer. Be sure to look carefully at all pictures and video before bidding! Offered for sale is my 1986.5 Nissan D21 pickup. I will do my best to describe this vehicle as accurately as possible. This truck has some issues so please read everything carefully! What makes this truck special is the diesel engine conversion. It originally had a gas burner and the diesel was swapped in by a previous owner. The engine is the 2.2L four cylinder Nissan SD22 from an earlier Nissan/Datsun 720 pickup. I am unsure of the exact year for the engine but they were available in the 720 from 1980-1983. This engine would be ideal for wvo or biodiesel due to it's simplicity. I bought this truck in 2008 to have as a project/gas saver. It was not running when I got it because of numerous wiring issues as a result of the guy who did the conversion never really finishing the job. I got it running and driving and all the essentials working in the truck and put about 10k miles on it. My plan was to do a more complete job later, but plans and priorities changed and I have never gotten back to it. I don't use the truck anymore. The last two years I have probably driven it less that 500 miles and this is why I have decided to sell it. Below I will run through the good and bad. Mechanical: The engine uses a significant amount of oil. It has a few leaks, I think mostly from the valve cover, but never enough to drip to the ground. The rest of the oil consumption is from oil being burned in the cylinders. Despite this, the motor starts and runs great. You could probably continue to run it as is for a long time, but sooner or later it is going to need a rebuild. I think this is the most important thing to know if you are considering bidding. As I stated, It runs really well and has yet to let me down. Give the glow plugs time to heat up and she starts right up. There is a block heater installed but I have never used it more that to try it out. There is one bolt missing from the thermostat housing and I assume it is broken off. There are no leaks in cooling system. The transmission and clutch are good. The shifter feels a little sloppy but has no trouble going into gear. I was recently told that there are some rubber parts that need to be replaced to make the shifter tight. There are no known problems with the other running gear and the brakes are good. The steering is tight and the truck goes down the road straight. There are two broken wheel studs that need to be replaced. One on the front passenger side and one on the rear drivers side. The tires are only a couple years old and like new with only 2-3000 miles on them. The truck has aftermarket aluminium wheels. The truck has ac that worked great until about a year ago. The compressor is not engaging and I have not investigated why. I had the entire exhaust system replaced shortly after I bought the truck. Electrical/etc.: The wiring was on this truck was a disaster when I got it. Basically nothing worked. I removed a lot of unnecessary wiring left over from the gas engine and got most everything working. Everything works now except the horn. Because the instruments in the dash are not compatible with the diesel, none of the gauges/warning lights work except for the fuel gauge. There is an aftermarket gauge panel installed under the dash for temp., oil pressure, and amps however the temp. gauge is not currently working (The truck runs really cool anyway and I never saw it come close to overheating when the gauge did work so I didn't worry about it much when the gauge quit). The speedometer quit working last year and I have not investigated why. There is no radio installed but I will include the one that came with the truck when I bought it (Pioneer cd player). The driver's side door speaker also needs to be reinstalled. The blower motor only works on high. The blower motor resister needs to be replaced to fix this. As I said, all the essential electrics work, but the wiring is sloppy and I recommend anyone bidding to consider rewiring at least some of it (especially the engine compartment) as I had planned to do. Paint and body: The truck was repainted at some point and the paint is in overall good condition except the following two areas. There is some rust above the driver's side rear wheel well. This will need to be patched to fix right. There is a small spot on the cowl where the paint is chipped off and the metal has surface rust in this spot. There are no other big issues with the paint. Most of the sheet metal is in very good shape other than one dent in the driver's side rear. Both front and rear bumpers have small dents but it's hardly worth mentioning. The bed has had some kind of painted on bedliner on it that is worn off in some places and there is surface rust on some of these spots. The bed is solid with no holes. The doors and windows work as they should but the door latches are starting to feel a little tight. Cleaning and lubricating the mechanisms should fix this. The gas filler neck is for gasoline and a diesel nozzle will not fit causing you to need a funnel to fuel the truck. I noticed some surface rust forming on the rear floorpans a couple weeks ago. I think that the seals on the rear window may be leaking. The floors are good and solid and this can be easily dealt with before it gets bad. The interior is in pretty good shape for it's age. The driver's seat has some cracks in it and there is a hole worn through the rubber floor where your right heal sits. There are a couple small cracks on the dash. The ashtray is missing. The rear "jump" seats are missing and there are speakers in their place. The driver's side window crank need to be replaced. There are no cracks in any of the glass.
