Vehicle Detail
1946 Chevrolet Model 3104 - 1/2 Ton Short Box NO RESERVE The 1941-46 Chevrolet Trucks were awesome years when it came to Chevrolet Pickups and on top of that very rare to see these days, great swoopy looks, last of the Art Deco Age, these were some of the more elegant Chevrolet trucks ever built, when it came to style and size, everything just flowed together very well. This body style came out in 1941, the 1942 was unchanged, but came to a halt on January 30, 1942, because World War II. After the war, soldiers came home, and still found their favorite trucks, in late August 1945, Chevrolet started building Civilian trucks like you see here, and I believe they called them 1946 models. 1946 was the last year of this body style. So really only a 2-3 run of these trucks. This truck is in great shape, I would call it pretty much a Finished Project that needs tinkering, love the Patina, love the stance of it, it is a great driver, that you can hop in and enjoy right now. You can do some upgrading to it if you like, or restore it to original if you please. It has been upgraded with a 1955 Chevy Bel Air 235 engine, codes are on the Block, F55Z (Flint, 1955, Z-One-Fifty, Two Ten, Bel Air) Block Casting 3836233, 115hp (1946 216 had 90hp, so a nice add of power). It is not a Blue Flame Corvette Engine, just a sticker on the valve cover, but fun to look at when people start to decode it. Anyways, it is a very good truck, it runs great, and lots of looks around town, everyone always likes to check it out, because it has just enough patina and edge, that people just love it the way it is. This is a Short bed, 115" wheel base, long bed were 125". This truck spent many years in Eastern Oregon, the odometer does work, and it reads 46,662 on it today, I was told it was original miles, but assume it has rolled over at least once. This is a cool old truck, please read on for more information. By the way, Model 3104 is a 1/2 Ton Cab and Pickup box, 115 wheel base, Curb weight 3095lb, just in case you wanted to know. Thanks, Jason 503-910-2085 The body is in nice shape for its age. Obviously it has very old paint on it, lots of paint flaking off, and has been touched up were it has come off, lots of chips and scratches. What is amazing about it is the body is very solid, the cab, has no rust bubbles at the corners, bottom of the doors are clean, and the cowl. Firewall is in very good shape as well, no issues, very clean. The paint is very old on it, there are spots of primer on it, drivers side rear fender has primer on it, overall, the body is very sound on it. It has some filler on it in various areas, you can see pictures of it, were there is some cracking, there is some on the roof, no one has tried to restore it, just people trying to take car of it in the past, repainting etc. The paint I would guess that is on it is from the late 60's or 70's, it is old. Personally, I would just grind some it back down, redo it, and spot paint and age it again and keep the look. I love the stance and patina on this truck, thought it is good enough shape to restore to original if you so choose, these trucks can fetch into the $40's done correctly or more. The bed sits nice on the truck as well, the doors shut nicely. These trucks came with a lot of chrome, obviously by the photos, the chrome has some rust and pitting on it, but is perfect for the looks of a truck like this. The front windshield has some delamination around the edges, there is a large chip behind the Lions Drag way sticker. The windows roll up and down, the passenger side window is a little slow. Overall, a very good body on it. The wood in the bed looks good for a truck of this age, looks like it was replaced at some point. The interior is in good shape, very nice seat, with good padding. Original headliner is worn, but still intact. Doors all open and close. Interior components have some age obviously, never restored inside. Steering wheel has small cracks, and chips in it. The speedometer does work and odometer works. Oil pressure, and Temp gauge work. The fuel gauge and amp gauge are not working, the amp gauge doe move a little though, just not sure how accurate it is. The turn signals all work, and lights work. The horn does not work, or at least the horn button doesn't. Heater fan does work, but the knob spins some in the dash. The window crank is not working on the dash either. Overall, these trucks had Spartan interiors, so not a bunch to describe on the inside, it is not a restored truck. Under the carpet, forgot to take picture, actually is in great shape, no rust holes or anything like that, very clean. Mechanically it is in great shape, it starts right up, does not blow any smoke or burn oil, very clean running little truck. As I mentioned before it has been upgraded with a 1955 Chevy 235 engine, and it just purrs like a kitten. The transmission is a 3spd manual, shifts nice, clutch is good in it. The exhaust is in decent shape as well. It has been upgraded with a Mustang II front end, which makes the truck handle nicer and gives it a lower stance upfront. The rearend is stock, and has been lowered with 2 lowering blocks. The brakes work good, they stop the truck decent. The truck, does wonder a little bit, and is a bit bumpy out driving it, not bad, just trying to explain that it does not drive like your new Honda. Overall it is a good cruiser at 55mph no problem, not often people take these out on the highway for long stretches, but I imagine it would do okay. Exterior lights are all work. Underneath is very clean, no signs of any major oil leaks, it has minor seepage on pans, but nothing that is really hitting the ground, just typical old car seepage. The frame is in very nice shape, no rust issues on it, the under panels, and floors look very good, inside fenders are very decent. Overall underneath it is structurally in good shape with no major issue or any bad repairs that I can see. One of the reason I bought this truck originally, was not just because of its good looks, but because it is very solid, and has excellent bones if that is what you want to call it. Overall nice truck for being 68 years old, and never being through a full restoration.
