92 RRC Ardennes Green on Winchester Gray Time Warp Truck Overview: The idea of a factory fresh Range Rover Classic existing today is total wistful fancy: It is the stuff of Rover-Club Meeting banter & the daydreams of enthusiasts who pour through volumes of Rover Heritage Picture Books. And then there is this truck!!! I could not believe it when I first got my eyes on her; she is, most certainly, in the top percentile of concourse caliber Classics. Owned since new by a female Professor Emeritus at a local University, this vehicle has been cherished since its delivery with no expense spared in ensuring that it perform and feel as it did when it was new… for all time! There are some irreplaceable historic qualities to this vehicle – if you have ever sat back at your desk wondering what a Range Rover Classic truly looked and felt like when they were new – you have an exceedingly RARE opportunity to experience it first hand with this vehicle. The quality of this interior has them ALL BEAT. Folks, once this truck is gone, I am convinced, you will never have an opportunity to have an interior like this again. For all intents and purposes, the Winchester Leather seats are “Brand New.” They are soft and supple and feel as if the vehicle was just delivered. They are not simply just “clean.” They are tender to the touch, with that sumptuous new leather feel. How? They have spent the last 23 years under GENUINE Range Rover Sheep Skin seat covers (included with the vehicle) and have been completely protected. The original Range Rover factory keys get you inside. Once there, you will no doubt be overwhelmed by the enduring opulence of this truck. The deep hued woodwork, the untainted leather wrapped steering wheel, the factory fitted cellular telephone create a true executive level feel. Fire her up and she’s as healthy on the inside as she is on the out. The 3.9L aluminum V8 is incredibly smooth with tons of available power to send you soaring off the line. The transmission’s performance is crisp and quiet and delivers all forward and reverse gears as if the vehicle were new. Suspension and steering truly give away the European sports car that is hiding within the Range Rover. Take a long looping freeway interchange at 90mph and you’ll know what I am talking about. She cruises down the highway as if on rails and will convince you first hand that you are in the only vehicle out there designed to better the S-500’s of the same era. The in-cabin appointments such as power locks, windows, sunroof, windscreen, tail gate defrost, seats, instrument cluster, multi-function stalks, auto-dim mirror and map lamps, all work perfect. The AC in this vehicle is knuckle-freezing cold. The system cools down the cabin instantly and within a drive of about ten minutes, your ears are literally freezing. That said, it was a welcomed treat this last week for me in the Los Angeles Area. With Santa Ana winds creating temperatures of 90 degrees even into the evening, this truck kept me cool without ever missing a beat. The heat works equally as well and as this has NEVER been a smoker’s vehicle there are no lingering smells from vents/ducts/etc. Braking performance is excellent. The tires are newly fitted Michelin Synchrone’s – the descendent of the original Legendary Michelin XMS tire. Body, Chassis & Coachwork: If you have scanned ahead to see the pictures before reading this, I am SURE you have done your share of double-takes. Yes. It looks like that in person. And dare I say BETTER. The Ardennes Green Paint is nearly 100% flawless – with any blemish being entirely forgivable considering the vintage and otherwise astonishing appearance. As mentioned before, the quality of the seating will blow you away. The GENUINE factory dog guard is in MINT condition and the GENUINE sheep-skin seats are nearly perfect as well. All loadspace components are intact and accounted for – also in MINT condition. The headliner and sunshade are brand new and the rugs and carpet are still soft and plush. Even the Range Rover branded driver’s mat is in near PERFECT condition. Another point of interest with this vehicle is the color combination. This is a career 1st for me. RRC’s in Green/Tan, yes. Black/Grey, Black/Tan, White/Grey, and White/Tan; SURE. I have NEVER seen an Ardennes Green on Winchester Grey combination. When I spoke to the original owner about this, she informed me that this was indeed HER choice. She had to wait additional time for this vehicle to be produced and delivered. This may in fact be THE ONLY ONE OUT THERE… The GENUINE factory Brush bar is in excellent condition, as is the lower valance. The GENUINE running boards are also a treat and are in great and STURDY shape! Underneath the vehicle, all frame seams and welds are excellent with no rust on them or the body. Pay close attention to the cleanliness of the pictured door jambs, wheel arches, and bulkhead seams. Factory fresh. EVERYWHERE. Now perhaps my FAVORITE FEATURE about this vehicle. If you’ve scanned ahead and have seen them in the pictures, then you probably know what I am about to say. The ultimate indulgence of the day, before in-car entertainment was even a trend, a Super-Nintendo Game system & VHS deck were integrated into the back seats! I nearly died when I saw this – as did my audio specialists when I brought it to them for evaluation. Given the work they do now, and the scarcity of this kind of appointment then, they estimated the job to cost nearly $5000. The color LCD screen which was used as the display was removed by them because it no longer worked – despite everything else still being operational. I did not want to retro-fit a modern kit into the vehicle because I felt that it would take away from the time-capsule nature of this upgrade. Now, I swore an oath to the original owner that I would never remove this system and there it shall stay so long as I have it. If this is not for you and you wish to restore the seatbacks to original integrity, I have had my upholstery shop recover two Winchester Grey seatbacks for you and they will go with the truck, my compliments. I remember the stories of my parents waiting in line during the holidays back then to get me one of those systems and the kid inside hopes that you will help this rare piece of history endure! Outside of that, this vehicle comes with the SHOWROOM Sales Brochure, ORIGINAL window sticker, ORIGINAL Green/Yellow California Title (they are blue now), TOTALLY COMPLETE owner’s manual with full array of factory literature right down to the GENUINE Range Rover Cross pen (which, of course, still works)!!! Purchasing, Perspective & Why Buy From Me: No one puts a Range Rover Classic together better than me, PERIOD. It’s the vehicle I drive, and the vehicle I RACE. Nearly two decades of Classic ownership and service are poured into every Classic (and every Rover) that I see into new hands. All too common are sales from the brokerage houses where a vehicle will receive a detail service and nothing else. Leaving maintenance work for the pleasure of the new owner; often time’s immediately following reception of the vehicle. Beware of any Classic that does not share the same service points as the ones I advertise with my trucks. They are ESSENTIAL for long term reliability and any Classic without these services are ticking time bombs. I am not a Land Rover tech that drives home in a Honda Civic. I come from a long line of British Car technicians and Live, Breathe and even RACE the green oval. I understand ALL of your concerns and needs and do my best to ensure that you will be happy based on a simple, yet powerful concept: DOES THIS VEHICLE MAKE ME HAPPY? WOULD I PUT MY WIFE AND BABY IN IT? WOULD I LOVE TO HAVE IT? The answer is always yes. And that’s when I know they are ready. I care. I know you do, too.
