Vehicle Detail
For sale, 79 F250 High Boy 4x4 right off the ranch. I recently acquired this truck from the 3rd owner, the 2nd older rancher before him owned it for 25 years. Sold new right here in the Montana high desert, land of the sagebrush and prickly pear cactus. This truck was in use as a wood hauler and hunting vehicle for many years right up to current time and prior to that it was a ranch truck. It's well maintained and mechanically ready to use as is or restore this very desirable dry western truck in a factory high impact color. Exterior: Paint was repsrayed some years back, it's an amateur job and is acceptable for a driver only. Needs complete repaint if you want it nice. Some equally amateur body work was done, I'm guessing by the long term rancher owner as is customary around here. Wheat and cattle operators typically re-do equipment and trucks during the winter season. There is filler on the passenger side box,(and more recent paint on passenger rear box), lower passenger door, and front of hood that has begun to crack. I looked in behind those panels (even removed door panel) and there isn't any major damage, looks more like the truck lost a fight with a steer and those dents were pulled and filled(can see a few holes where drilled for dent puller). Passenger side of the box is wavy. There is a dent in the passenger front fender that doesn't show up in the pics. I pulled the headliner out to check for any damage, and the cab looks great. Corners of front stake pockets of box have been welded in the past. The really good news is that the truck is virtually rust free. Only rust issue is at the very lower rear of driver side box, where mud built up and held moisture. No rust elsewhere or underneath, and I know where to look. Cab mounts, cab corners, cab drop-offs, floors, all look clean - even tank skid plate is rust free! We don't just don't see major rust or rot issues in this arid country- there's just no moisture. We only get 10 inches of total precipitation annually, and no salt is used on the roads. Glass is good except for windshield, which needs replacement. Chrome trim is good with no major pitting, grille surround is dented but grille is nice. Bumpers are decent but not mint. Tires are not weather checked or cracked but only have a season of tread left. Interior: Presentable for a driver or working truck. Seat has tears on driver side as shown, but isn't worn out or broken down . Carpet is decent. Door panels nice, dash has a newer dash cap. Headliner is fine. Just about everything seems to work including gauges, heater, and aftermarket radio. Ready to use as is with the addition of an inexpensive blanket seat cover, and restore later if you want it nice. Mechanical: Starts, runs, drives out well. No major issues - engine runs smooth and pulls hard and trans shifts well. Oil pressure is good, no noticeable smoke or noise or leaks. 4x4 works fine and seems tight, no leaks other than a few small oil drips. The fellow I bought the truck from was using it to make 100-mile round trips for firewood and had no issues. He told me the engine was replaced with a lower mile unit when he got the truck, but was unsure of the exact mileage on the motor. Truck shows 132k. Exhaust from mufflers back needs replacement eventually. There's a dent in the oil pan, doesn't seem to affect anything and it's been there a long time. Good working truck, not a pampered cream puff by any means, but I've put a couple hundred miles on and from what I can tell it's ready to use and enjoy. I didn't try the rear fuel tank, previous owner said it hadn't been used for a couple years so I didn't chance it and only used the front tank. Might want to drain the rear first before use. Truck comes with new U-joints for front driveline, previous owner thought the truck still had the originals and figured they were due. I drove it in 4x4 high and low and don't feel any vibrations, so no hurry on those but they will be in the glove box. Pricing/Misc: I got a good deal on this rig and you will too. This era F250 is very hard to find, especially in the best factory color of that year (orange) and these trucks book a ton, but the very reasonable reserve is well under $3k for quick sale. Transport is readily available and probably cheaper than fixing rust on a Midwest or East Coast truck. Title is clear and signed off by previous owner and ready for you to fill your name in as purchaser. GOOD LUCK! Keep in mind that with all cars and trucks, THEY LOOK BETTER IN PICTURES THAN IN PERSON. Don't bid expecting a minty creampuff, this truck is a great candidate for restoration, but not perfect by any means.
