Vehicle Detail
I have decided to part with my 1963 Studebaker Avanti R-1, 4 speed in order to make room for additional projects. In 2007 I located this one being sold locally by a Studebaker collector. It was in original condition with tired paint, and an even more tired interior, however the owner had rebuilt the engine, but I have no proof of this, as I did not receive any receipts. After working out a price, I purchased it and began a body on resto. The Avanti runs strong, and runs through the gears smoothly. It burns no oil, and doesn't smoke. I did replace the original carb with a new Edelbrock. I installed new shocks, sway bar bushings, traction bar bushings, and new tie rods. I also replaced both right and left exhaust manifolds and installed 2 Flowmaster mufflers. The master cylinder, and power brake booster have been rebuilt. The frame and hog troughs are solid. The body was hand stripped of the old finish, sprayed with Evercoat Slick Sand, block sanded, and repainted in a PPG base coat/clear coat Avanti white. The bumpers were re-chromed, and all exterior chrome trim pieces were replaced with either NOS or repo, with the exception of the door handles and door window frames, which are in very good condition. All stainless trim was buffed. The interior was replaced with a Phantom Auto works interior in the correct Avanti red/fawn. The Radio was replaced with a Custom Auto Sound stereo, and a new power antenna. ( I covered the dash and console with the engine turned vinyl to break up all the fawn color. It can be removed). I replaced the stock wheels and tires with American Racing mags and Uniroyal Tiger Paws to give it a more aggressive look. I have put less than 1000 miles on the car since I bought it. All glass is in good condition. I am also including the original steering wheel, and parts and shop manual. I have been as accurate as possible in describing the Avanti, however please bear in mind that the car is 51 years old and although I have rebuilt and replaced many things, I can not guarantee that there are no unknown issues. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail, and I will respond quickly.
