Note: I could only fit 24 photos on the auction. There are more than 70 photos at the link below. The BMW /2 is one of the most enjoyable vintage bikes to own. They are relatively plentiful, yet with their quirky German military styling queues, they remain interesting to work on, and especially fun to ride! The /2 frame design is both unique and functional, and the styling is defining of the 60's vintage era. /2's are easy to start, maintain and are a real hoot to ride, ...and quite reliable, even with very extended service intervals. This particular old motorcycle was recently "rescued" from a decades long storage in an aviation hanger. It's a matching numbers R60/2 fully ready to ride. We rebuilt the motor, checked the crank for run out and big end slop, scoped bearings and cleaned the slingers, block and pan, and other components. The bearings were nice and, except for the crank nose bearing, we reused them. The motor case was dipped and scrubbed. One of the cylinders had badly chipped fins, so it was replaced. The pistons were nice and 2nd over. The cylinders were bored and/or honed to size, painted hi=temp black and baked. New rings from KS. All VITON seals and silicone ring head gaskets. Good chrome pushrod tubes and new rubber seals. The carbs were rebuilt with some thread repairs on the bodies, and bad or clogged jets replaced with ones in good condition. Runs great and no leaks. We swapped in some good chrome bits, good shocks, chassis lube, wheel bearing inspection, brakes look great, and new tires on nice chrome wheels - Heidenau K34's. Wheel bearings removed, cleaned, shimmed, lubed. The rear fender was damaged, so it was replaced with one in good condition. The pipes are Hokse style chrome and I was reminded about how good those sound. The transmission was rebuilt, shimmed and adjusted. The sector (kick start) gear was replaced with one in good condition. The 4th gear train was worn so gears in the 4th gear line were replaced with new and good used ones. Several worn bushings were replaced with ones in good condition. The transmission received new bearings, seals, gaskets. Both the engine and transmission cases were scrubbed in solvent to get them as clean as possible. They show lots of patina. The frame was cleaned and it looks nice. The tank looks really nice with good patina. There is a new Karcoma petcock and new fuel lines. We are currently missing a horn in the photos, but will put one on for the winner of this auction. The brakes work good. The US bars are nice as are the controls. The wedges are there! The electrical system is original 6v with a good battery. The lights work. Magura twist tube with grip and throttle cam with chain were replaced with new. The throttle action is smooth and buttery. New front brake cable. The clutch plate is new, throw out bearing seal. The clutch pushrod was replaced with one in good condition. The u-joint is good and the rubber drive shaft boot is new. Any objectionable rubber was replaced - footpegs, grips, and the odd grommet or two. Seat is a dual, US freshly recovered in Mercedes Benz heavy duty seat material with a very nice texture, new piping. The seat frame was repainted, and the canvas and stuffing renewed. If the buyer desires, the seat can be swapped out for a new denfeld solo "tractor" seat, no additional charge. A clean, ca title will be provided with the sale.
