Vehicle Detail
Please read the ENTIRE listing before deciding to bid! 1992 Mercedes 400E (E420) W124 This is my 84-year old father's car. It has only 177,000 miles on it. It has never been in a major accident. It has been a Southern California car for it's entire life - so there is ZERO rust or corrosion. It was very well maintained by a local Mercedes specialist. I believe that it has all factory-original paint (except for the trunk lid which was re-sprayed many years ago to repair some scratches.) The interior is light tan colored genuine leather (not "MB Tex" vinyl) which is in surprisingly good condition with no rips, stains, or tears - except for the seam at upper part of the rear seat is splitting due to the sun. (See picture.) The drivers seat upper side bolster has a dark mark in the pictures, but it is NOT torn. The wood on the upper center console is good, but the lower section near the window switches is bad. The dashboard is perfect - there are absolutely NO cracks. THE "STORY": The car has now been sitting in their driveway without being driven for almost three years. As you can see in the pictures, the interior is very dusty and dirty from sitting so long, so it could use a good cleaning & detailing. The clear coat is bad on the hood and roof due to sun exposure, but the rest of the paint is fairly shiny. It has a large (but easily fixable?) dent on the right fender, and it has various small scrapes & dings as would be expected on a 23 year-old car. It was a good running & driving car when it was last driven. We installed new spark plugs, caps & rotors, but it needs a new upper engine wiring harness. (The upper engine wiring harness is a common problem with these cars. Google "Mercedes biodegradable wiring" for more info.) Other than that, the engine and transmission are mechanically perfect . The car was used on an almost daily basis before being parked three years ago. One window regulator makes noise, but still works properly, and the other ones are perfect. The radio is bad. The sunroof works, but is slightly out of alignment when closed (It needs adjustment). The heating and air conditioning work perfectly, as do ALL the other accessories (other than the problems previously noted). The chrome on the rims is pitted, but the tires have lots of tread left. Overall, it's a good straight, solid, and rust-free California car. Registration has been paid and kept current up until last year. That pretty much sums it all up - I've tried to provide "full disclosure" by listing all that is good, and all that is bad on this car. With a new battery, wiring harness, and some TLC, it could be a really good, safe, solid, and reliable car with LOTS of miles left on her. Come and take it away.... Please remember that it is NOT currently running, and will need to be towed. ARRANGEMENTS FOR MOVING THE CAR MUST BE MADE WITHIN 5 DAYS OF THE SALE! BUYERS WITH LESS THAN 10 FEEDBACK RATINGS OR A FEEDBACK SCORE LESS THAN 95% MUST CONTACT ME BEFORE PLACING A BID, OTHERWISE YOUR BID WILL BE CANCELLED. NOTE: THE "PINK SLIP" IS MISSING, SO THE BUYER WILL RECEIVE ONLY A "BILL OF SALE" WITH THE CAR. THE TITLE IS "CLEAR" - YOU CAN SEE IN THE "AUTOCHECK" REPORT THAT THIS CAR HAS AN EXTREMELY HIGH SCORE OF 73. (WHEN THE 'NORMAL' RANGE IS 15-36!) THAT HIGH SCORE IS CONSISTENT WITH THE CAR'S HISTORY. Also, please note that the car is listed for sale locally. Seller reserves the right to cancel this auction if the car becomes unavailable.
