Vehicle Detail

This model is a 1956 62 Series Sedan. Vehicle is in great condition. As you can see from the pictures, it is ready to drive. Please look below for additional photos. Vehicle has matching numbers and numbered keys. Fully optioned with power steering, power brakes, power windows and 6 way power seats, all in good working order. Plus, a new 2-speed electric wiper motor, replacing antiquated vacuum system. Original knob in dash operates new electric wiper motor. I reserve the right to end the auction early, as I have it listed elsewhere. Ebay wants me to pick multiple payment options, but Bank Transfer within 7 days of the auction's close is the only payment type I will accept. Since buyer is responsible for pickup and shipping (I am happy to assist with the loading of the vehicle), International Bidders are welcome. 1956 Cadillac looks great EXHAUST SYSTEM---New heat riser, new aluminized front pipes, new aluminized mufflers, flex tailpipes are type 304 antimagnetic stainless steel will last forever, new stainless steel exhaust inserts in rear bumper ends as original--black circles in lower ends of bumper ends are plugs I made fron other ends with lousy chrome I had ends on car replated with the inch and a half hole cut in them 30 years ago before new inserts were available--sorry afterwards of course---so they have sat in my daughters old bedroom wrapped in paper til this spring when I installed them on this car--the plating is perfect and is made from the old hexvalent process not that lousy plating they do today. Car has new shocks front and rear--new front and rear seals in transmission--front wheel bearings wrere checked and repacked--be sure to read answers to questions below and on next page---all mechanical work was done this past year--car was only driven recently to road test--was last on the road in the late 70's according to person I bought it from--he didn't have it registered and bought it from him in the late 80's where it has sat [unregistered] in my garage til this spring when I transferred a plate from a 56 coupe I sold last December. You will notice a ballcrank valve on the passenger side of the engine controlling the flow of hot water thru the 2 heater cores--just turn it in on in cold weather, off in warm weather--this results in better heat in the winter, a cooler ride in the summer and you are assured because you can physically see the position of the valve---the original design had a mechanical control valve located in the firewall behind the engine--half the valve was located on the engine side --the other half of the valve on the passenger side --this was the side of the valve which would develop leaks resulting in your floor insulation becoming soaked with antifreeze-and you never knowing you have a leak until your carpeting on the passenger side gets wet with antifreeze---what a mess---you may say have the valve rebuilt---you still don't know whether it's leaking or not 'til you got a mess unless every day you get down on your hands and knees with the passenger door open and look at the valve--it was not a good idea heatwise because the valve is controlled by your blower swich---so there is no hot water flowing thru the heater cores---there ice cold---and now turn on your blower motors and open your valve at the same time blowing cold air into the car, for how long depends on the outside temp--it takes a while for the hot water to warm the cold heater cores with cold air blowing thru them--with my ballcock valve you get instant heat because it's cold weather and you have your manual valve open and now you have excellent heat warming up both sides of your car instead of the heat coming just from a central point under the dash like our '68 fleetwood we took out on Thanksgiving ---the driver side door was ice cold, the steering wheel was cold my shoulder was aching---due to an old injury-- it is aggravated by cold--I sure wished I was in a '56 --I drove a '56 coup some 30 years back and forth to Boston until I retired in '95--a 50 mile round trip --it always got me there and always got me home and I was always warm and comfortable--the vacuum wipers all those years was another story. COOLING SYSTEM--new core in radiator--heavy duty cleaner installed, engine run and flushed, lower freeze plugs removed [engine was cleaned and flushed before installing new radiator]---new freeze plugs installed--- both heater cores removed, cleaned and pressure checked, all heater hoses and transmission hoses are new, original cast aluminum tees in heater hoses were replaced with nylon tees [originals corrode and block] --new 160 degree thermostat installed [did not plan in using car in winter] -- although 56 system as I have it set up would provide plenty of heat with 160 never go higher than 180 thermostat. FUEL SYSTEM--lines from the carburetor to the gas tank are new--new fuel pump and filter assembly, rebuilt carburetor[rochester]gas available to the accelerator pump after xtended down time seems to evaporate so I always prime in these circumstances--other than that accelerator pump works fine --engine idles right down to 450 rpm and is steady--fuel tank is exactly as original--no dents, norepairs or patches, never been recoated or cleaned internaly--look inside thru the filler neck or the sending unit hole and you wilI see the shiny original finish she left the factory with in 56--way back when I bought these cars I would drop the gas tanks, if they were not shiny clean on the inside I would scrap them ---if they were absolutely perfect on the inside I would pore a gallon of refined kerosene in them, seal the filler neck, turn them up down and sideways, store them and routinely keep moving them around to circulate the kerosene. GREAT CAR at reasonable price INTERIOR--floor pan and trunk pan were refinished and are absolutely perfect and rust free---xtra insulation was added on top of original jute for soundproofing and comfort --seats are like new underneath, burlap which is usually torn is like new as seen in pictures--front and rear bottom cushions are shown--lebarron bonney seat covers were installed over existing upholstry[no foam pad in between]--original upholstry was vinyl and synthetic fabric[no wool, no moths]--it was stained otherwise in good condition[no tears,no holes--I bought new headliner and xtra fabric[for columns between doors]and matching windlace or use car as is--existing headliner has no holes--new headliner is guaranteed to fit and free of defects til next february just return to me unaltered and I'll take care of it--material is VELOUR AND IS ALSO FROM LEBARRON BONNEY DRIVETRAIN--engine runs excellent--no smoke--smooth and quiet---some lifter noise after sitting a couple of weeks or so,but quiets right down as she warms--no lifter noise when warmed--use 10w-30 castrol or pennzoil only--new timing chain ,sprockets and front seal[rear seal does not leak]--rebuilt oil pumpand new lower freeze plugs--rebuilt original delco morraine water pump--never seen one on any other cars--identified C56 in raised letters, one inch high on the upper front potion of the pump plainly visible when you open the hood--I have 4 of them I have taken off cars--they apparently used 2 in 56,this one being rarer and this one has larger passages, and I found over the years the same car would run cooler with a C56--the 4 speed automatic shifts very smooth,no harsh 2-3,no clunk forward to reverse[real smooth]--new front and rear seals, pan dropped and cleaned,no metal sediment, bronze filter cleaned, new o ring seals on suction side of pump, new tranny fluid[castrol or pennzoil],sometimes slips in and out of park on an incline so I alawys use the emergency brake first then park and that solves the problem--driveshaft has 2 good replacement U joints with grease fittings--axels removed and bearings checked[OK],new axel grease seals installed, new pinion seal installed in front of differential, new hypoid 80-90 grease---what I alawys enjoyed doing wirh the 56 4 speed was shifting it manually on the takeoff--the gears are relatively close together and the steering column selector moves very easily--I;ve never tried it with the 60;s 3 speed--to start with the shift lever does not move smooth --keeps locking as it was designed to do--the 56 locks but movesd very easily FIVE one year only 56 rims were refinished, new valve stems installed, tires mounted and balanced---original one year only bumper jack in trunk along with the lug wrench and hold down hardware---original foglite housings were refitted with standard park directional sockets and glass amber bulbs installed[available in any auto store]---the remaining original park lite socket and it;s clear bulb now go on with headlites as modern vehicles---see pictures INSTRUMENTS--all original gauges, oil, generator and emergency brake lites, map, instrument, and glove compartment lites and trunk lite are all working---license plate lite was disasembled, cleaned and refitted with stainless screws for easy bulb replacement--speedometer and odometer work perfectly--clock and radio do not work---remote outside mirror[a first for 56]works very nice[much better than the later cable systems]--dome lite goes on with either rear door, but does not go on with switch FRONT END---has all original 56 cadillac parts or nos[no made in china parts]--there is absolutely no unwanted play in any part of the front end--neither the steering box or the pump leak-- the steering is very lite--there is no wander on the road--you would have no problem getting inspection sticker BRAKES---everything is either new or rebuilt, from the mastercylinder down to the retraction springs and anchor pins, lines, wheel cylinders, brake shoes and they work great--drive down the street, let go of the steering wheel, put on the brakes and the steering wheel stays straight--Iwish my 60;s cadillacs had as good a brake LIGHTS-----brake,directional,park,tail,backup,glovebox,dome, map, instrument, trunk, license plate, all work perfectly--headlites are halogen, front park -directoinal lites are now amber--clear park lite goes on with headlites---these along with the electric wipers are for safety Map lite goes on when you open front doors or can be operated by map lite switch On Feb-07-14 at 22:13:41 PST, seller added the following information: sells to United States and Canada only
