Vehicle Detail
Hello Ebayer's - My first car was a 1979 240D. I purchased this car last week as a way for me to remember and enjoy the good ole days. Monday Morning a received a notice on my door from my homeowners association that the car needed to be moved from my condo complex within 15 days. Here is what I know. I am an automotive guy and was hoping to get the car back road worthy myself. I am a sales rep for BG Products. One of my accounts knew I was looking for a 240D. This vehicle was owned by a man that was into running his diesels on veggie oil. The engine started loosing power and eventually became hard to start. It ended up at one of my customers and the decision was made to NOT repair the vehicle. It was diagnosed with burned valve(s). My plan was to put a head on the engine if I didn't have a BG product that would take care of the problem. I brought the car home - drained and cleaned the tank of veggie oil. Replaced fuel filters and filled her up with diesel. After some cosersion I was able to get her started. There is smoke and it seems like its not hitting 100% on all 4 cylinders. Once you bring the vehicle off idle it runs pretty well and the smoke deminishes. I was going to continue to run it on a daily basis and see if BG 244 and BG 109 would do the trick. (Google them - eBay doesn't like links!). My hunch is that the injection pump is full of glissern deposits. Futhermore - I think those glissern deposits are on the valves. I have completed a valve adjustment and all are within spec. Tires and brakes are in great shape. Tires are less than 2 years old. Brakes feel good from the little bit I have driven it. Additional Information: 1.) The automatic transmission seems to work - I haven't been able to drive it far. The gear selector needs adjusted. It seems to be floppy and hard to find drive. I was able to shift it manually. Everything seems to be there - just needs some TLC. 2.) The door locks are inop. Probaly vacuum related. 3.) The engine does not shut off when you turn the key off. Again vacumm related. 4.) All lights work. Dash, fog, front and back 5.) Radio works. Power antenna works too!! 6.) Battery is strong and 2 years old. 7.) Floor pans are solid and dry. Folks - This is a project or perhaps you need parts. I have been unable to find any rust however I have not been under the car. At one point it looks like the car has been sprayed - It will need to be done again. No major body damage. I wish I could keep her - just sitting in the car brings back memories! My grandfather gave me my first yellow 240 - I will never forget going to the American Legion with him. Unfortinutly my condo complex frowns upon my new found enjoyment! A $500 deposit is due within 2 business days. Remaining ballance to be paid in cash or certified check. Vehicle will need to be towed. I am happy to assit with shipping. Vehicle is in Savannah, GA. 31419. Sold with Georgia bill of sale and current registration. Questions? Absolutly! Please let me know what I can help with!
