Vehicle Detail
This Rambler was sold through Galax Motors (Dodge, Rambler) in Galax, VA to a local preacher. It was passed to his son - also a preacher - and then finally sold by the son's widow to a local couple in Mt. Airy, NC near my home. It must have been sheltered or garaged all of its life as few of these made it this far without rust. What I purchased locally last December to be a solid daily driver has become more work than I have room for. This super straight and bone stock Rambler needs a good carburetor mechanic and likely a simple transmission adjustment to be perfect. I've run out of time and effort on this one - a change in my job has increased my travel and decreased my ability to wrench on this one. Go through my Feedback and you'll see that my purchases and sales have always been at 100% for 13+ years. The result is a NO RESERVE opportunity to own a nice platform for either continued stock condition or maybe transplant in a bigger powerplant (like an AMC 327....). Either way, you have an excellent starting point. Here are the details: The following parts are brand new and have been installed unless otherwise indicated: professional urethane single stage exterior paint job in factory colors - interior and trunk left untouched starter carburetor (NORS, 1968 AMC 1-bbl Carter RBS) engine mounts/hardware rear transmission mount (isolator) rear transmission crossmember side mounts (not installed) radial tires, in period width whitewall (185/70/14) front wheel cylinders (Wagner) front brake shoes rear brake shoes front turn light lenses and gaskets for all four turn/reverse lights NOS Glo-Brite tail-light lenses valve cover gasket distributor cap points correct distributor advance spark plugs spark plug cables oil + oil filter carpet kit in dark green loop from Stock Interiors (not installed, original in decent shape) teal bamboo weave pattern trunk liner from Stock Interiors new green vinyl press-on windlace (not installed but simple to do - should be done after carpet is laid) These parts have been thoroughly detailed during body repaint: all side mouldings restored to original paint scheme hubcaps painted to match mouldings radiator surrounds, headlight doors, bezels, Classic emblems refinished in semi-gloss black as appropriate, decals applied in engine bay stripped and painted valve cover and air cleaner in Mopar red engine paint, new 232 decal These parts are unbelievably in perfect stock condition: original bias ply spare and wheel - never appears to have been ever mounted or painted all door panels excellent - impossible to find in this pattern and scheme one-piece fiberglass headliner dash and gauge panel, switches, etc. door sill plates original Rambler seat-belts What needs to be done is a small list. I've disconnected the vacuum wipers at the source to eliminate any chance for vacuum leaks, but they do work. The radio antenna was ridiculous looking and allowed leaks to occur into the cabin so it was discarded, but radio works and OEM hole in fender was sealed with a simple nylon plug. Fuel and temp gauge do not work but I never bothered - it's usually a $45 voltage regulator your can get from Kennedy's or Galvin's or APD. The idle is not happy without a fairly closed choke, but then overly closed gives a real acceleration bog....these Carter RBS carbs were used on a ton of AMC and Ford applications and are frustrating to get right. As I said above, it'll need attention. Transmission shifts smoothly but never seems to take it to 3rd gear, regardless of selector. I'm certain that an adjustment/cleaning by a good shop is in order. Starts up perfectly, handles great and gets tons of looks. This is one of the nicest color combinations in the 66 AMC family, in my opinion. The owners' manual will be in the glove box. The clear NC title in my name will be couriered to you upon receipt of payment through PayPal. I have both the correct parts book and the OEM Technical Service Manual. These are not included but available for $100 combined, as a separate purchase (a $130 value). Thanks for looking and enjoy the auction.
