Vehicle Detail
If it wasn't for my mechanic saying that my engine was about to blow a head gasket, I wouldn't even know that there was a problem :( She runs strong and the only indication of any problem is that there is a slight belt squeak every once in a while and there is an exhaust smell coming from under the hood (not uncommon in an old truck...). There is a small oil leak, which mostly keeps the undercarriage lubed up and only leaves a small puddle once in a while (also not uncommon in an old truck…). Runs great, starts up every time and runs strong! I got this truck as a restoration project a few years ago when I had a neighbor as a mechanic and didn’t need the truck for my daily work. We replaced almost everything under the hood except the big stuff (engine, transmission, exhaust) because we were working in our driveway with hand tools. Now I don’t have the luxury of a mechanic next door and I DO need a functioning truck for my daily work. It breaks my heart to see her go, as she’s been a solid truck and even when broken has always been able to get me home. If you have a 1980 then you know how hard it is to find parts for this truck, so I’m hoping that some mechanic out there will have the knowledge to finish this restoration project or use the good working parts on this truck to rebuild another old Big Bronco. I’m not a mechanic, I’m just an enthusiast, and I’ve taken it as far as I can go. Right now she still runs strong, and I want to get her to her new garage before that head gasket blows. 1980 Custom Ford Bronco 352M V8 5.8L engine (that’s right a 351 MODIFIED) Edelbrock Performer series intake manifold and 4 Barrel Carb Includes original owners manual and Light truck manuals! There is no smog pump or a/c unit, both were broken beyond repair when I purchased the truck so I just removed them and plugged the holes. The engine itself has blow-by and needs to be rebuilt or replaced. The dipstick is broken off and there is no passing gear linkage. New Edelbrock Performer series 4 Barrel carburetor and intake manifold installed, along with Edelbrock valve covers and exhaust ports. Dash gauges are in good working order except for the oil sensor doesn't seem to work and the speedometer wiggles until you're up to 25mph. All of the gauges light up when the headlights are on, but sometimes the right two (oil and battery) don't light up. The little orange needle doesn’t move off of Park but shifts just fine. Driver's side door was banged in by a hit-and-run driver, but the rest of that side wasn't hurt. The window still rolls up and down and the door still shuts and locks but there is a gap in the weatherstripping that allows light/rain in. The chrome trim on the door was destroyed, and I'm also missing on piece of chrome on the other side (see photos). Tailgate is rusted top and bottom, top has been repaired a few times, bottom has the rust stopped (used Ospho) and is just taped over. There is a dent in the bottom right but that doesn't effect opening/closing. Window goes up and down nicely both with the key and from inside on the dash. The radio (aftermarket cheapie) and dome light stopped working at the same time, which I assume is a fuse issue, but I can't figure it out to fix it. The passenger seat hook suddenly stopped releasing so that you can fold it down. Vinyl on the front bench seat is shot, but custom Hawaiian towel seat covers are included. Back seat is in great condition. The body is in pretty good shape, a few small rust spots here and there that I have sealed and covered in Bondo. I have a few cans of factory metal fleck blue paint that I've been using when I make repairs. The tires have lots of tread left and I’ve done my best to keep this Bronco as stock as possible (made an exception for the carb. upgrade). New stuff (all within the last four years) -New tires two years ago (including a full-size spare that is still brand new) -New door panels -An entire new set of weatherstripping, including for the top that comes off, which I haven't taken off yet so that is still new in the bag, also extra door window weatherstripping -New windshield wipers a few months ago (water pump for wipers doesn’t work) -New water pump installed 2 years ago -New brake pads, the thickest best I could buy from Napa -New yellow pneumatic shocks, doubles on front wheels (see photo) -New brake booster this past year -New Warn locking hubs in front -New starter (with new fly wheel) -New distributor -New spark plugs a few years ago -New rear window motor -New power steering belt -New fuses and flasher (for turn signals) -New radiator hose -New battery last year -New tail lights, right one has a small piece broken out from when the tailgate got hit -Just replaced the 9” third member with one from a scrap yard that is in good shape (lots of receipts for things!) My original plan was to restore this truck and I've replaced most of the little things under the hood, leaving the engine and exhaust for last. I've had a career change and now I don't make enough money to support the final stages of this project, largely getting a rebuilt 351M engine shipped out to Hawaii and installed. This truck is such a smooth ride and the awesome retro look is instantly recognizable! Please see more photos here http://i361.photobucket.com/albums/oo51/saraspix/1980%20Bronco/IMG_4902.jpg I would be happy to answer any questions or send more photos, just be specific about what you want since I don't really know what I’m doing. I’m asking for you to arrange shipping. Thank you for looking! Good trucks don’t die, they get rebuilt :)
