Vehicle Detail
1983 BMW 320i 1.8 liter engine with 5 speed manual transmission It is a good running car but I am selling it for parts due to title problem. (see below). I spent over $3800 with receipts to make this car roadworthy only to find out I cannot register it. It has a new (California-compliant) catalytic converter, new radiator, AC was repaired and updated to R134, new rear brake drums, shoes, parking cables, heater core, exhaust manifold gasket, ignition switch and ignition tumbler, spark plugs, plastic radio console. The AC will take a bit to work but will eventually be cool. The car starts and runs well, the body is remarkable rust-free except for few superficial scrapes on the paint. It is a Georgia car. Miles, I believe are correct at 199,960 miles. The front hood and valance have dents and dings as seen in the pictures and there are smaller dings and small dents on other areas but otherwise, the body is otherwise in good shape, all glass is good. Title description:I purchased the car in March 2013 from a local person when I was living in Tennessee. The title he had (and I have) is from the last owner and it is a clear Georgia title. She then made a mistake when she sold the car in August 2012) by filling out her name in both the seller and buyer areas. (see picture of title on the back). She also wrote the name of the buyer but crossed that out as well. She included a few pages of corrections (affidavit of corrections) to the title. Apparently, the buyer never registered the car ( I think it was not running at that time and probably decided to sell it without repairing it). The car probably was sold a few times with a Bill of Sale only probably due to being inoperable and no one was willing to do the repairs. Since I bought the car, I had a lot of repairs done to make it roadworthy. The wiring to the ignition system were wired wrongly and were corrected. Many new parts were replaced as listed above (I have the receipts). When I inquired to the local DMV in Tennessee about registering the car in my name, they said that I need to get the last registered owner to write me a Bill of Sale. I tried but was unable to find and reach the last owner. She apparently lived in Georgia but re-married and changed her name. It is for this reason, I give up and offer the car for sale for parts only (e.g. as a part car). If you are motivated enough, and/or use a title company to try to fix this, you may be able to title the car in your name. Alternatively, you can use the numerous body or mechanical parts on this car to fix another E21 320i. I will provide a Bill of Sale from me to you and the Georgia title I have in hand together with all other paperwork and receipts. The car is in running condition but I do not recommend driving it for long distances or at night since the headlights stopped working. The light tan paint appears to be original everywhere. The interior has tan cloth door panel but the seats were replaced by previous owner with (I believe E30) seats. The fronts sit in very well; seem to fit perfectly in this car but the rear bench is too wide (and was squished to fit in so it is not attached - but just sits there - see pictures). The carpet and headliner appear to be original and has signs of wear. Dash has few cracks. The radio console piece which extends on both sides and in front to surround the shifter is new old stock (I paid over $200 for it). There is no radio. There is missing the panel that covers the bottom side of the dash (e.g. above the driver's feet). Good tires, brakes, vent and heat, AC blows cool after little time. The front headlights stopped working, otherwise position, signals, brake/tail lights appear all to work well. Battery holds charge well and car starts right up even after weeks of storage. THE GOOD: good running car, amazingly rust-free, lots of new parts THE BAD: title filled out wrong by last owner, headlights stopped working, hood dents, missing radio and few buttons on dash THE UGLY: front hood dents and dings, rear bench does not fit Car is sold AS IS, WHERE IT IS, AS A PARTS CAR ONLY. There is no implied or expressed warranty. Any inspections are to be done BEFORE the auction's end. If planning to fly in and drive away, I will provide pick up from any local airport (anywhere in LA/Orange County area). Closest airport is Ontario but you may find more and less expensive flights from LAX or John Wayne/OC. If planning to ship, I will meet or deliver the car to your shipper. Shipping is the buyer's responsibility. Thank you for your interest!
