Vehicle Detail
Presented here is a very pretty red 107-chassis Mercedes-Benz. A 1981 280SL, it is a rare and desirable Euro-spec example equipped with a four-speed manual gearbox. These cars were never officially sold in the United States and are therefore quite rare. Its European history is unknown, but it was a Texas car for many years before coming to Massachusetts in 2013. Finished in red with a black cloth soft top, it has a black leather interior and a modern Garmin GPS system has been retrofitted into the dashboard.Overall, this car is a strong running example with a few minor issues. The odometer does not read correctly but the car is thought to have somewhere around 100,000 miles. The indicators also do not function, and the right front wheel does not match the other three. Other than these, a few cosmetic issues and a general sorting mechanically, this car needs very little. The paint and interior are quite good, and since it spent much of its life in a dry climate, it is strong structurally as well. The W113 SL's built by Mercedes from 1963 to 1971 have seen a rise in value as collector cars over the last few years. This series is likely to be next, and this rare example is particularly desirable. A well-engineered, well-built and reliable sports car, it only needs straightforward work before becoming a thoroughly enjoyable classic driver. The vehicle's VIN# is WDB10704210008114.This 1981 Mercedes 280SL Roadster is for sale at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, Massachusetts. Automobile sales benefit the Museum's ongoing projects and programs.
