Vehicle Detail

This is a rare opportunity to own some history and a very cool Ossa! We have here a rare and unique one-of-a-kind 1977 Ossa 250 cc. Though the bike has never been titled, the frame is a 1977 so I am listing it as such. This bike has never been started since new as it has been cherished for it's uniqueness and as a show bike with significant Ossa and Yankee motorcycle history. It has been explained to me by the original builder, it was built with the highest quality components and craftsmanship available. The foundation of this racer is built on the extremely rare and highly sought after 1977 1/2 Ossa GP III frame. As you can see in the photos, the frame tag is still attached to the neck. At some point in time either the kickstarter or the pipe have been changed, as the kickstarter is for an up-pipe and not a down-pipe. Additionally, as you can see in the photos there is no rubber boot from the air box to the carb. Otherwise, to my knowledge the bike is complete. Though there is at least one inaccuracy in the following description, as David stating the frame as being a GP II and it is the rarer GP III, here is the description and documentation of the history of the bike from the original owner and builder of this rare Ossa: Dear Rick, I am sorry that it has taken me so long to write you a bit about the history of the 1978 Ossa. Let’s go like this. I have been racing motorcycles most of my life and I learned how to speak Spanish in the60’s as a result of teaching in the Peace Corps in South America. When I returned home, I went back to racing in 1965 and in 1967 got the opportunity to work in Spain for my good friend John Taylor who was the Bultaco importer in America. I arranged a deal where I could race motorcross for Bultaco and translate owners manuals and advertising from Spanish to English. My wife was an English teacher, she would proofread them and they would go around to the English speaking world. While in Spain, John Taylor made a deal with Ossa to build engines for his Yankee motorcycle co. Bultaco severed relations with John Taylor so I worked for Ossa as a writer ... Eventually the Spanish motorcycle companies were driven out of business by the Japanese competition. We in America sold both Bultaco and Ossa as well as many other motorcycles. We had the opportunity in the late 70s to buy part of the Ossa factory. Which included machine tooling and an assembly line for some of their motos. We brought this to Scottsville ny and established a museum. We had a miniature ossa factory here. I was a member of SMOG Spanish motorcycle owners group, during the 80s and 90s we would meet and go on trail rides. I was sick of not being competitive so I built the best ossas I could conceive of. One of these is your bike. Which I never rode. Here is what it is: Frame and front forks 1978 GP2 phantom 250 ... wheels DID with stainless spokes from Buchanan laced to ossa hubs. Rear shocks: White Bros. Airbox: by Hoss Cylinder: 1973 stiletto 250 Lower engine: 1973 pioneer which has heavier fly wheel and wide ratio gears. I knew from experience that this combination was very efficient. Would handle well and put the power to the ground. I daresay that no one else in the World has got a cross country mid 70s motorcycle that is comparable. If you want any additional information, please feel free to contact me. David Robinson Additional history includes accounts of the Ossa and Yankee parts warehouses and factories burning and this being one of the last bikes built prior to the fire... Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions and good luck bidding! Again, this is a rare opportunity to own some history and a very cool Ossa!
