Vehicle Detail
This listing is for my 1976 Alfa Romeo Spider. It has had been restored in the past by a previous owner (10+ years ago perhaps), but still looks exceedingly pretty and drives well. There is little rust to speak of - none that I have seen. It has been garaged both by myself and the previous owner, and is in ready to drive condition - not concours but definitely in a condition most people should be very happy with. I am selling it as I have imported a different vehicle from Europe and have limited good storage space. I am trying to list all negative issues, but will not list all positives - the photos should do that. I welcome any inspection of the car in person (no test drives without insurance, cash and driving license please). The Alfa drives well, and is mechanically original. The engine pulls well and sounds good. The battery is on a trickle charger while parked in the winter - I try to drive it as the weather and time allows, but it does not go out when there is any salt on the roads so this limits its use in winter. It does take some finessing to start when it's cold, starting in warm weather is usually as simple as following the owners manual advice to depress the accelerator, but can also take some effort sometimes. The engine will often idle high - around 2-2.5k. I have no problems taking it out on the highway and for both shorter or longer trips. Gear shifts are solid, brakes are good and the suspension is okay - although it does have a old car waft to it. The tires and wheels are in good condition, I believe that the wheels were refinished some time ago too. The heat works well. The exterior and interior are in good shape. The car would have been a rubber/big bumper car originally, but was converted to earlier bumpers and front end prior to my ownership - this is evidenced by a bracket on the front end to support the grille I believe. The paint is in good condition in my opinion, as is the chrome work. There is little to report on the body - there is a ding on the hood, and a push on the rear panel area that has damaged the paint; you may not be able to see them at all in the photos, they genuinely are small in my opinion but I do not want someone to be disappointed. On the interior, the car shows well, but there are some issues as follows: small tear on lower section of drivers seat; oil pressure gauge does not operate; tachometer is not good, it will sometimes operate okay at lower engine speeds but will often spin wildly; the dashboard is cracked - not terribly, but bad enough. The mileage is showing as 85,252. The speedometer works, but I do not know if the mileage is correct (I have no reason to suspect not though). The Pennsylvania title is clean and in my name, the vehicle is registered as a Antique in PA. I am happy to go to a local notary with the buyer to have the title stamped if needed. Please contact within 72 hours of winning the auction or using Buy-It-Now. Deposit welcome via PayPal, balance by cash or money order/cashiers check (pending clearance as necessary). I am happy to work with your transportation company if needed, but would much rather the future owner saw the car prior to purchasing and could collect in person. Thanks! On Dec-29-13 at 16:31:25 PST, seller added the following information: I have added additional photos of the inside of the trunk/spare wheel well and of the underside of the floor pans. Everything appears very dry, there is some scabbing at the joints on the floors etc, but the pinch welds etc appear solid - please view the photos, and again I welcome any inspection in person. The fuel tank looks very clean - perhaps restored or replaced, although I'm not certain on this. The trunk carpet does not appear original. The jack and spare tire are there (and I removed them a while ago to make sure they were okay). The spare tire is unused and is the same brand as the others fitted to the car, which appear in good shape. I also looked at the previous receipts, which include a ~$1,000.00 retrim of the seats, $500 exhaust replacement and over $2,000.00 for paint work. The original owners manual is included, as is a folder with a (photocopy of?) the full factory service manual, with dividers for each chapter.
