Vehicle Detail

1963 Pontiac Lemans Convertible, 326 V8, Transaxle Automatic This car is a true barn find, it is 51 years old and has spent the last 43 years in covered storage. The original owner went into the service in 1964 and stored the car until his discharge in 1968, the car was driven until 1970 and then put in storage again. The plates currently on the Lemans are from Minnesota and have an expiration sticker from 1970. The car was purchased from the original owner 28 years ago by the second owner who continued to store it until he decided to sell it. It was then purchased by the third owner who keep it around a year and sold it to me. The title is clear and signed by the second owner. The car seems to be all original and complete with the exception of the rocker panel trim on the drivers side. It was last driven around 5 years ago around the property of the second owner, and last started by the third owner around 6 months ago who poured gas down the carburator and cranked it over. I have not started or driven the car as there is no battery and all of the fluids would need to be changed. The cars odometer shows around 56,000 miles and based on it's history is probably original. The 326 engine is coded 71X478744 which breaks down to: A body, 1963, 326, 260HP, 1 x 2 Carburator, 548211 Casting, 2 Bolt Main. Other numbers stamped on the block are 263P86736 and 214351 has been stamped over - don't know how to interput these numbers (included a picture). The body seems to have the original Starlight Black paint and has one dent in the drivers side quarter panel and plenty of smaller dents all around the car, which don't look like collision damage but rather from rough handling while in storage. There is some rot in the drivers side rocker panel and some minimal rust in the floorboards. The windshield will need replacement and the fabric on the convertible top is gone but the frame is good. The rims are for rolling only and are not road worthy. The interior is complete, there is a transmission shifter in the dash for the transaxle. There is a tachometer from a Bonneville installed in the dash. The seats don't have any cracks but will need to be reconditioned. Original carpet is still installed. This car is a great restoration project and a rare find. Not many of these around but will require total restoration by someone with the skill, funds and desire to bring her back to life.
