Vehicle Detail

#940 This is a very interesting one owner, low mileage, groovy 1970’s color - 1979 Z28 Camaro My friend, Doug was a Canadian citizen when he purchase the car new and he has owned it ever since. I have stepped in to help in finding this great piece of history a new home. Being Canadian, the speedometer/odometer are in Kilometers instead of miles. (The speedometer does have MPH marking in smaller numbers.) Doug drove the car for twelve years and then parked it when his teenage son expressed interest in driving it to school…. wasn’t going to happen. That was back in 1991 and the car has not turned a wheel again until just a couple of weeks ago. The odometer currently shows 85,832 kilometers (53,333 miles.) and these are actual numbers as the speedometer/odometer has worked the whole life of the car. I recently helped get the car back on the road. We installed a new battery, filled the tank with fresh fuel and the 350 started on the second try. The car has traveled about 50 miles since then. We had a local shop change the oil, check/top off fluids and the car drives very nicely. The tires still look good but have age cracking in the tread and will need to be replaced VERY soon. There is a little vibration from the flat spots that developed on the tires … that has gotten better as I’ve put some miles on the car. The transmission and brakes work well. The shifter cable needs to be adjusted as it will not shift the transmission all the way into park. I think that it would be a very good idea to change the transmission, differential and brake fluid and do a tune up before going too far with the car. The power windows are not working. Again, the battery is brand new. Back in 1991 the engine was totally rebuilt. In the era this car was built GM had a problem with soft lobes on the cam shafts of their 350 and this engine was born with the problem. Doug ended up doing the “as long as we are in there” and had the shop do a complete engine rebuild. That was about 200 miles ago…. and 12 years. The interior is in very nice condition with just a couple of needs. The dash board, gauges and steering wheel are all excellent with none of the typical cracking on the dash and no wear to the texture of the steering wheel. The seats and door panels are also very good with no tears or visible wear. The carpet is faded and has shadows of where there used to be floor mats. The headliner vinyl has come detached from the backing board and will need to be re-glued or replaced. There is an aftermarket cassette player installed but the dash appears to be uncut. The body has a few dings but no real dents. There is a little rust cropping up in the usual places (corners of the doors, lower front of the rear quarters and the trunk lid.The paint is faded and there is substantial flaking on the left side of the hood. The original space-saver spare is unused and in the trunk, as is the original jack. The original owner’s manual is in the glove box. If you would like to inspect the car in person I will be very happy to help arrange a visit. The car resides in Normandy Park, Wa. which is only a ten minute drive from the Seattle/Tacoma airport. So, if you aren’t from the Seattle area I can help you arrange transportation to inspect the car. Also, I will do all that I can on this end to help in stateside or overseas shipment. The car is fully licensed and registered in the state of Washington with no ownership questions or issues. If you have any questions at all please feel free to call or e-mail. My cell number is (206)276-9791 and I can be reached up until about 10:00PM (Pacific time zone.) Attached are all of the photos I have of the car but I can photograph any details that you would like to see. Just let me know (though that is a little bit of a problem as I leave for work in the dark and return in the dark and cannot get home during the day… Saturday or Sunday?) Please be prepared to make a $1,000 deposit via Pay-Pal, cashier's check or money order with-in 48 hours of the end of the auction and pay the balance within 10 days. I would like to see the car picked up soon after the auction ends but might be able to arrange for storage for a while. Best regards, Jtoo (John)
