Vehicle Detail

Let me introduce you to an extremely rare (12,678 or 13,382 total production, depending on the source) Jaguar Mark X (or Mark 10), and this one in right hand drive (could not find production numbers for this set up, but sure to be much more rare yet!). Be prepared to read, as the description is very detailed and a plethora of information is included! If you have any questions left unanswered, please contact me, Kevin, at 616-581-8815 or through eBay message system. There are plenty of photos found on this link: https://plus.google.com/photos/113272028201348840087/albums/5950758044821540961 OVERVIEW: This Mark X has what is believed to be 79,035 original miles (subject to change as it is for sale locally and available for test drives, weather permitting), and has received an extensive amount of mechanical work in the past 5 years. She runs fantastic and drives very well. It has been re-sprayed sometime in its life; original color was blue. Paint is decent, but not spectacular (good 10 footer). There are a few areas that have minor bubbling and there is minor damage on the fenders behind both front wheels. Chrome is good. Everything seems to work, including lights, windows, blower motor, all gauges, fuel switch. Interior is good to fair condition, with everything present. Undercarriage 95% solid. See photos: https://plus.google.com/photos/113272028201348840087/albums/5950758044821540961 DETAILS: Mechanical: The original 3.8 liter dual overhead cam 6 cylinder motor runs beautifully. It starts right up, idles smooth, accelerates nicely, and does not smoke. The 4 speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly. She runs down the highway at 80 nice and smooth - without vibration or pulling, and without white knuckles, as the 4 wheel disc brake system functions just the way it should - firm and straight. Receipts showing nearly $4,000 worth of mechanical work since 2008. Repairs include re-keyed ignition switch, new starter, new brakes including new front calipers, removal/cleaning/sealing of both fuel tanks, rebuild of all 3 carburators, both fuel pumps, tank sending unit, upper steering column bushing, cap & level sensor for brakes, re-cored radiator, hoses, points/condenser/rotor/cap, sway bar bushings, cold start sensor, water temp sensor, and more. There are some oil leaks, one from the power steering box and one from the front of the motor. Neither are major leaks. While the fuel switch for both tanks is working, one of the fuel pumps (right side) is not functioning, so the car runs only off the left tank. On a scale of 1 (poor) to 10 (perfect), I would give the mechanicals of the car an 8. Exterior: BODY: The original color of the car was blue, but the burgundy paint is in decent condition. There are the expected scratches, chips, dings, but no filler to patch any rust that we found. There is light damage to both front fenders behind the front wheels (damage from hoist), and minor bubbling on the wheel wells, but the rockers and rest of the body are solid. UNDERCARRIAGE: There is a small amount of rust-through under the driver's (right) side feet and the rear outbound frame extensions are rusted. The rest of the floors, frame and trunk pan are all solid and unpatched. GLASS: All the windows are intact and the side windows all open/close. Rear window has heating element. On a scale of 1 (poor) to 10 (perfect), I would give the exterior of the car a 6. Interior: The interior is complete from what I can tell. The original leather seats are in good overall condition, but do show their age. The carpet is fair, and the door panels, while complete and untorn, are warped. All of the handles are present and in working order. The dash is the original wood and needs to be refinished, but appears to be structurally sound. Headliner is present and also in good condition; needs to be re-glued around rear window. On a scale of 1 (poor) to 10 (perfect), I would give the interior of the car a 6. Electrical: While one would expect a loathing report of the Lucas electrical system, it appears that most everything is in working order. The only exceptions we have found include the interior cabin lighting, turn signals (switch on column is loose) and windshield washer. The exterior lighting (headlights, tail lights and brake lights) are all working. The interior blower motor, wipers, starter button, radio, and fuel tank switch are all functioning. All of the gauges are also working. Even the horn works! The speedometer cable will need to be lubricated, as the needle bounces around quite a bit while driving. On a scale of 1 (poor) to 10 (perfect), I would give the electrical of the car a 7. Again, there are a plethora of photos so you know what you are bidding on: https://plus.google.com/photos/113272028201348840087/albums/5950758044821540961 For a great article on the Mk 10, click on the link below: http://www.jcna.com/library/news/2002/jcna0100.html Also, courtesy of Wikipedia, enjoy the following information: The unitary construction body-shell was codenamed "Zenith" during development and this floor pan continued in production long after Mark X production ended, as the DS 420 Limousine. The new style, four headlamps set into rounded front fenders with a vaned grill, first appeared on the Mark X. The interior was the last Jaguar with abundant standard woodwork, including the dashboard, escutcheons, window trim, a pair of large bookmatched fold out rear picnic tables, and a front seat pull-out picnic table stowed beneath the instrument cluster. Later, air conditioning and a sound-proof glass division between the front and rear seats were added as options. The Mark X was the first Jaguar saloon to feature independent rear suspension. It differed from earlier large Jaguar saloons in having 14" wheels instead of the more common 15". It used a wider-track version of Jaguar's IRS unit first seen on the E Type, which was subsequently used on Jaguar vehicles until XJ-S production ended in 1996. Front suspension used double wishbones with coil springs and telescopic dampers. Initially Jaguar's XK in-line six-cylinder engine was featured, with 3781 cc. A 9:1 compression ratio was standard, but an alternative 8:1 compression ratio was available as an option. For the London Motor Show in October 1964 the enlarged 4,235 cc unit took over, although the 3.8-litre unit could still be specified until October 1965. Triple SU carburetors were fitted, fed from an AC Delco air filter mounted ahead of the right hand front wheel. Transmission options were manual, manual with overdrive, automatic or automatic with overdrive. Many domestic market cars and almost all cars destined for the important North American markets left the factory with a Borg Warner automatic gear-box. The power train was completed by a Thornton Powr-Lok limited-slip differential. Stopping power for this heavy car came from power-assisted disc-brakes on all four wheels. Power-assisted steering was standard.Jaguar Mark XOverviewManufacturerJaguar CarsProduction1961–1970 13,382 3.8 Litre 5,137 4.2 Litre 5,763 420GAssemblyCoventry, EnglandBody and chassisClassFull-size luxury carBody style4-door saloonLayoutFR layoutRelatedDaimler DS420PowertrainEngine3781 cc XK I6 to 1964 4235 cc XK I6DimensionsWheelbase120 in (3,000 mm)[1]Length202 in (5,100 mm)Width76.3 in(1,938 mm)[2]Height54.5 in (1,380 mm)Curb weight4,200 lb (1,900 kg)ChronologyPredecessorJaguar Mark IXSuccessorJaguar XJ6 Well, that's a lot of information to digest.
