Vehicle Detail
HELLO! I bought this cool old rare 47' Chevy Pickup a few months ago, but I now am facing a move (military) so I need to get rid of my excess "baggage". This is a true 2-owner truck that was last titled in June of 1983! It spent many many years couped up in a barn, I drug it out and got it running. It will move start right up and the motor sounds great (no knocking noises or any smoke), it will also move around and shifts well, however it's not driveable yet the brakes need gone through as wiring for the lights and it needs a battery/new fuel tank. The guy I bought it off of was adamant that the wooden bed is original, I can't confirm or deny that however! Overall this is a VERY solid truck that I'm impressed with, especially for being 66 years old. Solid cab corners, floor pans, roof, firewall, drip rails, rocker panels, doors, frame, around the windows, etc. It has one notable 2 inch rust hole (see pic) on the drivers side behind the kick panel, but should be and easy patch job. All glass is there the windows roll up and down. The drivers glass is cracked, the emergency brake cable is missing, the wooden bed needs completely re-made (unless you like it the way it looks, which I kind of do!), the passenger front fender on the front needs some love, and the floor is missing that panel that bolts in that goes around the transmission. Think that covers it...I'm trying to be as honest as possible, so if you can think of anything I missed please don't hesitate to ask any questions. It's located in Jacksonville Arkansas (5 minutes north of Little Rock). Also if you're out of state, I've had some friends have good luck using UShip.com. Jesse @ 309-255-4159. On Oct-23-13 at 20:10:47 PDT, seller added the following information:It's been brought to my attention that the engine might in fact be a 216ci, not a 235ci. I am going to head to the storage unit tomorrow and get the serial number off the block to be certain. I was told by the previous owner with certainty that it's the original engine...but I don't recall him saying the size of the motor. I "googled" it awhile back and was led to believe it was a 235, but I might have read something misleading. I will get the serial number posted by tomm evening so I don't mislead anyone. Thank you.On Oct-24-13 at 15:09:16 PDT, seller added the following information: OK, after a few hours decoding/researching the serial #'s of the block and vin tag I've come up with the following; Serial #: 3DRD5649 (located on the passenger side under the hood on the side) Mfg Date: April,1946 (late) Although it was manufactured in 1946, it was sold in 1947 and therefore sold as a 1947 (apparently a common practice in those days). So this truck is known as a "First Series 47" since they changed body styles in that year. Model : 3/4 ton Wheelbase: 125.25 inches Plant: St. Louis, MO The block serial number is; A626632 which matches the title. By what I've read, some states titled by the engine serial number (found stamped in the block to the left of the distributor), which doesn't have much to do with the body serial number. So by what the previous owner had told me, and this verification it shows that the engine is the original. Now after all the reading I've done I determined the engine to be the 216ci straight-6, not the 235ci I had originally believed it to be. Wow we (or at least I) learned alot, if anyone has anything else to contribute of any other questions please let me know! Thanks!
