As with each car we take on consignment, we run the VIN digits through "decode this dot com". When there was no match, we investigated farther and found out that both the VIN plate on the steering column and on the title are 13 digits long. While they match, all the research we did told us that 1962 Corvettes should only have 12 digits. It is obvious that there was an extra 0 (Zero) added to the VIN right after the first number in the VIN (2).The VIN is 200867S100016. We sold a 1962 Corvette on Ebay last month so we went back and checked the VIN on that one. Sure enough, there were only 12 digits. Since the owner we represent knew the original owner, and has known the car since the day it came off the show room floor, it is highly unlikely that this is anything other than a mistake made at the factory. Cathy - 1-419-460-2277 On Oct-11-13 at 18:37:17 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE: I'm happy to report that after forty years of sitting, the guys at the service shop got this baby running! Needless to say, all precautions were taken to insure that the cylinders were properly addressed, new spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor and wires were installed, the gas tank was drained and cleaned, the lines were flushed out, the carburetor was temporarily replaced, and all fluids were changed prior to attempting to start the car. While the exhaust is loud, the engine sounded strong as it came back to life! We have sent the original carburetor to Toledo Auto Electric to have it professionally rebuilt. It will be back on the car by Tuesday. In the meantime, the guys are going to "tweak" a few other things so the car can hopefully be driven on and off a trailer. I have also added 3 more pictures that show the VIN plate, engine pad, and a shot of the car being worked on. These guys are great and look over every car we list here on Ebay so that we can give prospective bidders a good idea of what we're offering. We'll keep you posted! Cathy. On Oct-12-13 at 06:46:32 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: A fellow Ebayer informed us where to look for the VIN on the frame. We were able to clean off the top off the frame just below the drivers door and put a small mirror between the frame and body and make out a partial VIN. It clearly shows 016 as the last part of the VIN. I was unable to see the first part of the numbers and can only assume that someone punched in an extra "0" after the 2 at the factory on the VIN plate. I guess no one back then realized they were building future classics! Thanks, Cathy. I just added a close-up showing it is in incredibly solid condition with the original spare, jack and tools in place. Also, I have had several people ask about the digits on back of the engine. We was able to locate them, clean them off, and then take pictures of them. Since I don't have any more space to add pictures here, simply email me and I can forward them to you.
