Hate to do it but up for auction is my 1964 VW dune buggy. The buggy is registered as a street modified hobbyist vehicle in Wisconsin. I built this buggy in 2003/04 starting with a clean sandblasted 1963 pan, the kingpin front end was rebuilt and an adjustable beam added at that time. A couple springs were removed from the beam to improve handling and lower the car. The rear suspension was removed and converted to IRS, the torsion bars were adjusted to improve handling and make up for the lightweight buggy. The chassis was chemically metal prepped and coated with POR 15. All metal and flexible brake lines as well as fuel lines were new in 2003. The clutch, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, front and rear shocks, wheel bearings, suspension bushings, motor & transmission mounts, complete wiring harness, fuse block, PERTRONIX electronic ignition, BOSCH 009 distributor, clutch cable, emergency brake cables, accelerator cable, tires, and just about every nut and bolt were NEW in 2003. The engine received a full lower end rebuild, new carb and intake, new cylinder heads, all new gaskets/seals, and new exhaust in 2003. It does leak oil at this time, I park it over cardboard. This buggy has been driven about 6000 adult driven miles since completion, the interior was done in 04, and the side pods added in 05. The master cylinder was replaced in 12, no other issues have occurred since completion. Has a loud and clear pioneer CD player with ALPINE 200 watt amp and 4 POLK AUDIO coaxial speakers. Power antenna makes it easier to cover car when not driving it. Interior is awesome, trunk area has battery and amp but still enough room for beer or a duffle bag/picnic basket. trunk has stainless continuous hinge, chromed latch with lock, and stays open with gas strut rod. Last summer I added a luggage rack on the trunk lid which is not pictured. Fuel filler was relocated to center of hood and a 68 charger hinged cap is used. It has1964 impala tail lights and motorcycle blinkers on the front bumper. The bumpers and roll bar are powder coated. I put the mirrors on the windshield frame and the blinkers on the bumper to keep the body clean and avoid drilling holes in the fiberglass. The fiberglass body is an original manx clone from the late 80's, I think it is a BERRIEN. The side pods are BERRIEN. If you,ve ever driven a vw kit dune buggy, they can be squirrely and handle poorly due to twist, and lack of structure. This buggy does not have those issues. The suspension has been adjusted to compensate for the lightness of the buggy as opposed to a Beetle. Softer rebound shocks were also used. Additionally there are square steel supports in the edges of the pan behind the side pods, and a strut bar across the rear shock towers stiffening the rear as well as supporting the rear of the body. There are extra reinforcing bars under dash supporting the body from side to side and the steering column. Additional bracing was also added in front gas tank and rear tail light area. This makes the buggy very stabile and it handles better than a stock VW. There are no stress cracks after 6000 miles of driving!! All supports, struts, etc, were fabricated professionally and are hidden and almost invisible when looking at the car. picture of dash is before interior was done.
