Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on one EXTREMELY RARE 1965/64 CROSSOVER Datsun L320 pickup. NUMBERS MATCHING. FLOOR MOUNTED 4 Speed manual. 60 HP E1 1200 Engine. All original!!! EXTREMELY solid, very little rust for this era. Very complete. Runs and drives great. Rare and hard to come by, especially in such original condition. 1964 was a ONE YEAR only specific model, with the triangular grill cutouts and turn signals. However, this is even more special because it is a crossover model... a 1965, 4TH ONE MADE IN 1965, but still retains the 1964 style grille and turn signals.....read below. I believe this may be one of the only "1964" models fitted with a 4 speed manual in the floor and sold as a 1965. See photos for verification. I see no remnants of a column shift. It is titled as a 1965, but I think this may have been a leftover 1964 model that Datsun, or a dealer, installed the floor mounted transmission in and sold as a 1965. 1965 was the first year for the floor mounted 4 speed and I'm sure Datsun had no problem "updating" leftover 64 models to be sold with the "new" much more appealing floor shift. If you look at the vin tag, this was the 4TH DATSUN MADE IN 1965, which I believe supports this claim. Floors are in great shape as well as the bed. There is no structural rust on this thing whatsoever. All suspension contact points, radiator supports, etc are in great condition. The only rust through is on the middle and right side tailgate hinges where they were tacked onto the gate (easy fix). The driver side rear quarter was gone over with some green paint at some point. All other paint is original and has a great patina. I have not even waxed the paint, which you could do, to bring it back even further. This truck has a brand new re-cored and re-tanked original radiator ($400.00) and has been converted to an alternator setup (Mitsubishi). I have the original generator and voltage regulator for extra cost if desired. The only missing items are the front trim piece for the hood, original ignition switch, air cleaner(aftermarket mushroom type hot-rod units will fit), radio, spare tire and two of the original type wheels. I have the original factory key which works the door locks great and would work the original switch if I had it. Replacements are available and you can have it made to fit the original factory key. I also have the push button for the driver side door, it is not shown in pictures. I also have the front bumper. It was removed a long time ago, but all the hardware/brackets/bolts are there for re-attaching, the bolts just need to be broken loose for re-mounting. I drive this around the neighborhood for fun. It is extremely fun to drive and gets stares and thumbs ups every time I take it out. TONS AND TONS OF PHOTOS AND VIDEO AT BOTTOM OF LISTING..........Click on the link to be directed to the photobucket page for larger pics. THE VIDEO IS UPSIDE DOWN AND I APOLOGIZE. I ROTATED IT, BUT IT WOULD NOT UPLOAD CORRECTLY ONCE ROTATED. HERE ARE THE DETAILS: ENGINE: I WILL POST COMPRESSION NUMBERS TOMORROW. Runs great, sounds incredible. The exhaust stops about two feet downstream from the downpipe/manifold union. The original exhaust was rusted away at this point, so I just left it unhooked. The rest of the exhaust is there (pipe and muffler), just not hooked up. New radiator. There is a small seep at the oil pressure sender (may just need to be tightened) and the front felt crank seal on the timing cover is leaking some (easy fix). Engine runs great, holds temperature, etc. The carburetor has been rebuilt. I would personally install a Weber 32/36 DGV if it were mine to keep. The original mechanical fuel pump is there, but it is not hooked up at the moment. I prefer running an electric fuel pump, which has been installed. TRANSMISSION: Shifts geat, clutch feels great. No issues. BODY: Incredible condition for this era. No major dents. No major rust through. The front fenders have some slight corrosion behind the wheels (typical). The passenger rear panel below the quarter in front of the wheel is missing some material, but is easily repairable or fabricated is desired. It is a very small piece. The paint is original and has held up very well considering. Some of the paint is worn off at the front of the hood and on the tops of the front fenders. The tailgate has a slight bend which could be straightened out easily. The bed is VERY solid, just surface rust. There is a small dent in the passenger front fender, I can push it out and it returns to original shape, but it won't stay pushed out. Just needs the "right" hands to make it stick. Rockers are solid with the exception of a couple of small areas(see photos). All glass is good. Weatherstripping is fair to poor. CHASSIS: All suspension working great. Floors in great condition. A few very minor spots have rust. Passenger side towards front and that's about it. All suspension contacts are solid, solid solid. Radiator supports solid. Brakes work well, but do require pumping once or twice. The wheel cylinders were replaced recently, so I imagine the master cylinder could stand to be replaced down the road. The brakes do grab from time to time, but have gotten better the more I have driven it. The wheels on the passenger side are correct. The wheels on the driver side are two "spares" I believe. The tire on the driver rear is wobbly and should be replaced soon. All other tires are in decent condition, a little dry, but good enough for local driving. I would replace tires for highway use. INTERIOR: Simple as can be and all there minus radio. Column cover has some cracks as well as the plastic around the steering wheel. The dash is in great shape, with some fading to the gauges. The door panels are great, not sure if they are original, the seat is in good shape, just needs recovering. ELECTRICAL: Headlights, wipers, all gauges, dash lights, horn all working. The turn signals have current going to them and the indicator on the dash lights up, but the housings are corroded so they will need to be cleaned or replaced to work properly. Same goes for the tail lights and license plate lamp. The lens on the license plate lamp is broken and the lens on the left tail light assy has a hole in it. The turn signal front lenses are very faded, but they are there. The odometer is not working. I have not investigated why it isn't. Judging by the pedal wear, I doubt this has much more than 119K. WHAT WOULD I DO: Drive and enjoy as is. It's not perfect, but it cranks every time and runs great. The brake master cylinder probably needs replacing at some point, but the brakes work good enough for around town, they grab from time to time, but mostly they work smoothly. It will grab less and less the more you drive it, as it has gotten better with time. The original carb works fine, but in my opinion, a weber would be awesome. OK, here is the stuff I have to state because of all the idiots of the world... On Sep-20-13 at 05:35:01 PDT, seller added the following information: The headlights are original TOSHIBA units. Very cool. All the indicator lights on the dash work (oil, ignition, turn signal indicators). The heater fan does not blow, but the wiring is also not connected, so I bet it works, as nearly everything else does. Window regulators work great as well as door handles, etc... This truck was well cared for through the years. The wiring has not been molested except for back at the tail lights, where some extensions were added for a trailer I bet.On Sep-20-13 at 08:32:47 PDT, seller added the following information: ENGINE COMPRESSION IS: 150-150-145-150 Front to back....COLD.
