Vehicle Detail

For sale is a low mile 1979 F100 2WD Custom dry western survivor truck. I have owned dozens of these high desert trucks and this is one of the most rust free examples I have ever seen. This truck was bought new in arid central Montana and stayed it's entire life here among the prickly pear cactus and sagebrush. It's a true barn find and was used only sparingly the last 25 years. I bought the truck about 5 years ago from the 2nd owner and upgraded it from a 351M to a 1968 390 GT High performance motor using all factory components from an earlier truck. I've put about 5,000 miles on it since then. I'm only selling to finish my red/red 75 Ranger shortbox - I don't have room for both. I'll do my best to describe this time capsule to the best of my ability below: Exterior: Super clean, original rustfree truck. Paint still shines well but has the usual dings, chips and scratches from 35 years of light use. I would call it good driver quality, it would need paint for concours show duty. Great for weekend shows/cruise night as is. Paint appears to be 100 percent original. There are several small dings along both bed rails, a ding in the driver front fender below moulding and one in passenger rear lower box that don't show up in pics. Body is tight and doors close like a bank vault. NO RUST that I can find, other than very minor surface, and I know where to look. In this region of the west, only get 10 inches total moisture per year, and no salt is used on the roads. I can upload underside pics, but there is no rust in cab mounts, cab dropoffs, floors, rear of box, fenders, or doors. There was very minor surface rust under carpet from the underlayment (holds moisture from boots) that I treated with POR 15 before I put the new carpet in. Also very minor surface rust inside box - nothing serious, it will come right off with a wire brush before you paint or rhino line it. There is a small spot of surface rust just starting over driver side tailpipe - shown in pic. Chrome mouldings on the truck are bright and nice. NO PITTING anywhere on the truck. Glass is good, I had a new windshield installed when I got the truck. There are some dents in the inner wheelwells inside the box as shown. Bed cover is a Truxport from Truxedo and rolls back for hauling open loads. There are some small holes from west coast mirrors that must have been on the truck at one time that are filled with rubber plugs - not sure if you can see them in pics. Interior: Original except for seat upholstery and carpet, and clean. NO CRACKS in dash and headliner and door panels are excellent. Carpet was replaced with OEM -style unit from LMC truck. I had a local upholstery shop replace seat upholstery as it had several tears. Steering wheel and instrument panel nice, as shown. As mentioned below, it's got a rare tilt column. It's a low mile truck and looks it! Mechanical: As mentioned, I didn't like the anemic 351M and 3 speed and installed a 68 390GT motor (even the Mustang exhaust manifolds) and a C-6 trans. Factory electronic ignition distributor was used. Also installed tilt steering column at the same time and converted to automatic pedal. Motor was out of another truck I had, and has been professionally rebuilt but I'm not sure of mileage. I would guess 30k. It sounds great and pulls hard. It will use a quart of oil between changes like most FE motors that have some run time. Stock 3.50 gear was retained. This is a low mile, tight. truck that starts, runs and drives great. Trans shifts great and will bark the tires into 2nd gear. Only leak is a small drip from a power steering hose, I had the steering box replaced last year with a rebuilt unit. Also had new large pipe Flowmaster exhaust installed and the truck sounds great - as good as any musclecar. The truck works great, and driving it is like jumping in a way-back machine. Ford really had the build quality figured out on these trucks. There is a slight vibration at 35-45 mph, but it wasn't bad enough to chase down and I don't drive at that speed often so I never investigated it. Tires have a season or two of tread left. With the stout motor, nice gear and light weight of this truck it really moves out! To the best of my knowledge, absolutely everything works on this truck and it's ready to go. We use this truck often and have for the last several years. Pricing/Misc: I got a good deal on this truck and you will too. Reserve is under $5900 for quick sale. Compare at $15k-$20k on the specialty dealer lots. Can't even begin to do rust repair on a Midwest or East Coast truck for that. Title is in my name and, ready to transfer to the new owner. Check my feedback, I've sold trucks around the country and as far away as Europe. If you have been looking for a 1973 1974 1975 1976 1977 1978 F250 F150 Explorer Custom Ranger XLT Lariat or the like, you know how popular they are right now and how expensive. Keep in mind that vehicles always look better in pictures than in person. This truck is not perfect by any means, but it's a super solid rig to enjoy right now, hop in and go!AS IS - NO WARRANTY This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied.
