Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a well preserved 1973 Volvo 145 wagon. If you know anything about the 140 series Volvo's, the wagons are especially rare in good condition (or in any condition), especially on the east coast...trust me, I know. I found this one in Colorado after a year of looking. The history that I obtained from the previous owner is that this particular wagon was purchased at auction after having been donated by an estate to the local NPR radio station. The original owner had died in 1995 and the car had sat in garaged storage for almost 20 years. The 84,000 miles are believed to be correct. *Please note that my clear title says 89,000 actual miles as I went to DMV to register the car and wrote down the wrong mileage on the application. 84,000 is accurate. Mechanically, the car runs great... the engine has plenty of torque, starts and idles smoothly. The 4 speed transmission shifts as it should and the overdrive is operational- with a recently installed new on-dash toggle switch that activates the overdrive. I've had it on the highway cruising at 70mph with the overdrive engaged and the rpm's are just under 3000. It drives true and straight. The speedometer/odometer broke shortly after I got the car this past spring. I replaced the speedometer cable with a new one and now the speedometer works but the odometer does not so I suspect the odometer issue is in the actual head unit in the dash. The interior is excellent... check out the photos. The seats are a medium brown color and are in excellent shape with no rips, tears or wear. Carpeting is good but quite faded and there is a set of Volvo dealer rubber mats in front. The headliner is excellent and looks to have been replaced. The rear cargo area is super clean. The dash has one small crack in the traditional spot but there's a custom dash cover. Everything works but the clock and the odometer. The radio is missing but all the wiring is there and speakers are in the doors for a quick install of a new radio of your choice. The storage area under the cargo tray is clean and has the original rubber mat (see photo) The exterior is a 20 footer. In the right light it looks great... but the paint is tired and original and has the traditional washed out patina of a car of this vintage. A respray would really dress things up but I like it just the way it is. There are some small areas of respray on the cowl and rear hatch from earlier repairs but everything else appears to be the original paint. Also, in the past 1,000 miles:the gas tank was drained and cleaned all fluids were changed (engine oil, antifreeze, brake fluid)new battery new wipers New front brake pads, caliper and braded brake linesNew rear lift hatch struts There is a tow bar receptacle and locking gas cap. ****IMPORTANT. The photo's show the car wearing a set of Volvo 1980's vintage turbo/virgo wheels and brand new tires. I'm planning to put these wheels and tires on my 1980 265 wagon. This car is being sold with its original set of wheels and studded winter 165/15 tires (see the photo of these wheels and tires with the original 1973 Volvo wheel caps). If the buyer would like the set of Virgo's and new tires shown in the photos I would sell them for an additional $500. Please contact me if you'd like to see the car and inspect this rare 145 in person... currently garaged in Charlottesville, Va.
