Vehicle Detail
This is a rare, original equipment standard transmission cargo van from British Columbia with a 300/6 cylinder engine that has been rebuilt in the past and runs well. The transmission has been upgraded to a 4 speed top loader with a non-synchro bull-low first gear for heavy hauling. It had manual steering when I purchased it, but I have since upgraded it to power. The rebuilt manual steering gear is included with the van. I purchased the van to tow a trailer from British Columbia to Ontario. I worked it hard, but it took it all in stride. The only issue during the 4500 km trip was a flat tire. Handled the mountains well. Didn't burn any oil. I have noticed it is a little harder to start when hot after the trip than it was before. A tune-up and carb rebuild would likely clear this up. The body is still very solid for a 35 year old vehicle. It is original paint with no body work or major repairs beyond the touch-up of a few scratches over the years. The floors and under-carriage are excellent as are the wheel arches and wells. There is rust on the hood lip, driver's door bottom, left rear door above the plate, and in the lower rockers on both sides. I have tried to capture these spots in the pictures. There are also a few small spots here and there from stone chips over the years. Overall, it would take very little to restore this van to pristine condition. it is still very presentable in it's present condition. The interior is clean. It has after-market swivel captain chairs in the front that are in fair shape. There are factory provisions for 2 additional seat, but they were not in the van when I purchased it. It has full carpeting that is in excellent condition. Door panels are nice, belts work properly and the dash is in good shape too. It has a working, period-correct AM/FM cassette player that is still wired to the single factory speaker located in the centre of the dash. The van is equipped as a tow vehicle. Class 3 hitch, 7 pin wiring harness, electric brake controller with resistor under the hood, and provisions for a dual battery system. Everything works, but the brake controller only works when applied manually. Mechanically, the van is in decent condition. It had a matched set of 4 tires with about 40 percent tread untill a tire blew during my trip. It now has the bias ply spare on the back in place of the damaged tire. Brakes feel good, but I don't know how much meat is left. No shakes or squeaks though. All the brake lines have been replaced. Parking brake works great. The fuel lines have been replaced with copper. The exhause discharges to the side in front of the axle, but it doesn't leak. I don't know if there is a cat on it or not. I replaced the intake/exhaust manifold gaskets when I purchased it. Currently has a manual choke system. Starts up easily and runs well, but would benefit from a tune-up. New spark plugs are included with the van. The clutch does not slip, but it does chatter when being engaged, mostly in downshifts. It is very driveable, but I would recommend resurfacing the flywheel. The van also comes with all the parts necessary to convert it to an automatic transmisson if you wanted to. This includes a used C6 transmission (condition is unknown, it worked when the donor vehicle was parked), ring gear, correct automatic steering column, correct pedal assembly for an automatic, dog house, and drive shaft. Overall, this is a great older van that can be worked as it is or restored to your specifications. Having just driven it across the country, I know you can drive it home. It's licensed in BC and driven daily. VERY IMPORTANT: The van is located in Kitchener, Ontario. Please keep this in mind for pick-up or shipping. I have the van for sale locally and reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Due to its age, the van is being sold as is with no warranty expressed or implied.
