Vehicle Detail
I purchased this car a couple months ago thinking I might restore it, but it would be my third project in as many years and I need to focus on other things for awhile so...Here is my rock solid 1967 Volvo 122s 4 door sedan with automatic transmission. This car runs pretty well, Carburetor It has an aftermarket Weber progressive 2bbl carburetor and manual choke. The car sat for a few years after the carb was installed so it might need a kit, I cleaned it and got it running but the accelerator pump is not working well and she hesitates on acceleration, probably a 30 minute fix with some carb cleaner. I will try to fix this prior to sale. Engine I went through the engine and it is in decent shape, the compression was 150,130,130,150, so I did a valve job to see if the would help. The compression is the same, so the leakage is in the rings. Normal compression is 150 or higher, so she is getting tired, but still has quite a bit of life left. The car does not smoke. Engine has a new head gasket (thanks to the valve job), cooling system is great, no rust and stays at proper temp. Brakes Work excellent after 1 pump, I will try to bleed them prior to sale also. I think one front caliper is leaking a bit and that is wear the air in the system is from. I have a caliper seal kit. Drivetrain I believe the front suspension was recently rebuilt and everything is very tight. The tires are decent and hold air very well, but I am sure they are fairly old. U-joints seem tight, the driveline carrier bearing is supported by a large rubber doughnut that is beginning to fail, I have a new one and it is a quick fix. Transmission The worst part about this car. The transmission works in all gears and shifts fine, but slowly leaks fluid when parked. I firmly believe it is just the belly pan gasket because the fluid level is down past all other seals in the transmission and still continues to leak. Another quick and easy fix that I just can't seem to find the time to do. The shifting mechanism on these old Volvos seem to wear out before anything else, you can find all the gears by feel but the column indicator and housing seem to always get damaged buy the shift rod and are hard to find (see pictures). Converting it to a manual transmission is probably the most desirable option. Again the transmission works fine, just leaks. Interior Seats are fair but most of the seams have failed, I re-stitched the drivers seat bottom and it turned out ok. The factory rubber floor mats were trashed so I tossed them. The floors are solid with some superficial rust where water had collected under the mats. I do have a couple original factory Volvo floor mats that are really cool! Exterior I will let the picture describe this area. The damage to the rear fender is not rust but a small tear or gouge where a previous owner caught the something with it. Some dings and dents and a small rust hole in the front center grill support section.
