Vehicle Detail
1970 Saab 99 - 52.5K on odometer, actual 152.5K. Purchased by me in NM in 1985 with 110K actual at which time the engine(from a 1971) was newly rebuilt. Car originally from New England but spent much of its life in Colorado and NM. I moved to Michigan in '90 and I drove it as our sole vehicle until '92. Stored it away in barn for most of the last 20 years, started it occasionally, drove it to work for a few weeks maybe 12 years ago. Engine last started 3 or 4 years ago and would start easily then once you got it going and had lots of zip but now won't start for some reason and I don't want to fool with it. Good news: Put a new clutch disk, pressure plate, slave cylinder when I last had it on the road so only a few hundred miles on those plus the shaft was replaced with a new one in '89. 2 good tires, 2 fair (one has a leak), 2 spares. Trans AOK (not a freewheel) came out of a 1972 model. Many many spare parts including complete extra engine and freewheel trans (never used by me but reportedly in good cond), additional cylinder head, exhaust pipe, many more. No mildew inside passenger compartment. Bad news: No battery. Slow leaks on all fluids except trans oil. Hood latch messed up, trunk spring unattached. Last time I tried the brakes they were somewhat spongy and calipers on front wheels tend to drag and heat up. Generator light goes on sometimes. Steering a little loose, drivable but needs attention/lube. Body is fair with no accidents although rust at door bottoms, hole under left front bumper and general spotty surface rust. Roll-down window bottom rubber seals shot. Right door won't open. No exhaust resonator. Radiator very poor but I have a good spare one from 1972 model if you can reroute hoses. Heater hoses have been changed around some. Right CV joint clicks on sharp turns. Mechanical fuel pump was disconnected and electric one installed in front of gas tank back in late 80s. Head gasket has slow oil leak. Complete service record from the time I bought it and workshop manual included. This was an old friend and I would probably keep it for sentimental reasons but you know how wives are and they are sometimes right. If you buy you are completely responsible for extracting it from somewhat tricky access which may require extra muscle/winch.
