Vehicle Detail
1959 Chevrolet Impala Convertible This is a clean California car! This car was treated with a complete frame off restoration. Every nut and bolt was taken apart and replaced with new hardware. Nothing on this vehicle was left untouched. Thousands of dollars in receipts were accumulated throughout the restoration as well as many pictures. It is currently registered with year correct 1959 California license plates. This is a very rare find! It is one of the most widely recognized Impalas by the very unique and radical styling throughout the car. Everyone remembers the 59’ by the signature wings. The car runs and drives great, you could literally come and drive away in this car. Electrical All new wiring was installed throughout the whole car instead of using unreliable 50+ year old wiring. New switches were also used where the originals did not function. All light bulbs were also replaced. An alternator was installed, to provide more than enough power for the vehicle, the air suspension and the custom stereo setup. However, the generator is available and may be installed if desired. In an effort to try to maintain the authenticity of the parts, a reproduction AC Delco battery was used which features the yellow caps as all the original batteries did at the time. Brakes All the brake components are new. No old questionable parts were used. All hoses, lines, pads, discs, springs, nuts, etc., were replaced like new! The brake system was also upgraded by replacing the front drums with disc brakes as well as new booster pump. All lines were replaced with new stainless steel lines. The rear brakes are drums, which were also replaced with all new components. Drivetrain The driveshaft was professionally done by Drivelines Inc. All joints were replaced as well as adding an extension to allow for needed movement in the driveshaft. The original driveshaft design did not allow for much movement, which could cause unnecessary pressure on the transmission. The drive shaft was also balanced. The rear end was rebuilt with all new bushings, seals and bearings. Suspension In 1959, Chevrolet offered a factory option of air suspension known as Level Air. However, due to the technology available at the time, the system proved to be problematic and many Impala owners ended up removing the system and installing springs and shocks in place. Today, Level Air parts are very rare and hard to come by. Because of this, an air suspension was installed to give the smooth quality ride like the “Level Air” factory option did in 1959. All bushings throughout the car were replaced. All body mounts and hardware were also replaced, including using the convertible correct cardboard mounts. The continental kit on the vehicle displays the rare “Level Air” emblem. NOTE: If the winning bidder does not want the air ride suspension installed, I will remove it and install brand new shocks and springs in place prior to shipping out the car, returning the suspension to stock. Fuel System A brand new gas tank, fuel sending unit, filter, stainless steel hard lines, straps and gas cap were installed. Engine The motor is a matching numbers 348 v8 professionally rebuilt by Orange Engine in Orange, CA. The block has been setup using a single four barrel intake manifold which can be switched out for the tri-power setup if desired. A Rochester four barrel carb sits on top. A brand new 4-row radiator was used to provide the car with proper cooling. All new belts, pulleys, brackets and fan blade were used. Nothing in the engine bay was left untouched. All correct “GM” hoses were used. A 59’ correct oil canister and filter were used with the correct AC Delco markings. An updated 605 power steering system was installed to make driving painless and more enjoying. Transmission An automatic TH-350 was rebuilt and installed. New stainless hard lines were used. Stainless & Chrome All of the original moldings and trims were polished to a beautiful finish. All chrome parts like bumpers, door handles, etc. were re-chromed for a show quality finish. Interior A full 59’ correct interior was installed with a complete kit from Ciadella Interiors. It matches the original patterns and colors as close as possible. The seats feature the convertible correct vinyl inserts, which is often overlooked when restoring a convertible. All door panels and carpet are also color correct and color matched with the original style of several shades of blue. Deluxe optional contour floor mats protect the carpet. Wheels The rims are also painted blue and have the factory 59’ hubcaps as well as the optional factory spinner accessories. The rims sit on General brand tires and are brand new 750-14 with a 2 ¼” white wall. Paint & Body The vehicle was completely media blasted and sealed from the very beginning. This eliminated all the surface rust as well as exposed any areas that needed work. The bodywork and paint was done by a painter who specializes in custom hot rods and bikes, with over 20 years experience. All dents were removed and areas that had signs of pitting after media blasting were neatly replaced with new metal. The color used is a factory correct 59’ GM Frost Blue. The frame and all components were also done with a GM factory finish in black. Underneath the body was painted using a red oxide finish as they originally came from factory. Note: Since the restoration, there have been some very small dings which have been retouched. They are not noticeable at a first glance, which is evident by looking at all the pictures. I would rate the paint job a 9.5/10. Convertible The frame was media blasted and painted with a semi gloss black. New cylinders, hoses, hardware and pump were used to ensure a trouble free system. The top is a brand new vinyl white cover. (Needs to be installed) Accessories & Dealer Options This 59’ features the following: Continental kit adorned with the Chevrolet script and crossed flags emblem.Front Bumper Grille Guard.Accelerator Pedal Cover.Wheel Spinners.Cigarette Lighter.Interior Courtesy Lights. Level Air emblem. Tissue Dispenser sits under the dash to keep tissues handy.Waste Basket Door Handle Shields were installed on the door handles to add style as well as protection from scratches. Chevrolet accessory sunvisor vanity mirrors were installed. Deluxe Front & Rear contour floor mats protect the carpet. Exhaust Ports.Deluxe Heater and Defroster.Power Steering.Electric Clock. (Needs to be cleaned and oiled, currently non-working) It also features 1959 Dealer Brochure, 1959 Chevrolet Accessories book, Owners Manual, Window Price Sheet, Maintenance Folder and Convertible Top Manual. 1 set of keys with all locks on the car keyed alike. Audio Keeping the appearance looking original was kept in mind when selecting the audio components. A Sony 4 channel amp was used to power 2 Infiniti Reference Speakers with built in crossovers for amazing sound clarity. The Infiniti speakers were placed in the factory locations, in the front dash and speaker grill in the rear seat for a discreet factory appearance. A Boss low profile subwoofer was used to fill in the bass. The Sony amp and low profile subwoofer are installed under the front seat and have a very small foot print and invisible when looking into the interior. It has a 3.5mm headphone connector so you can plug in your iphone, ipod, or other type of mp3 player. The overall result is a hidden audio system with amazing sound for listening to those oldies. NOTE: All pictures are recent and were taken on 7/14/2013. The way the car appears in the pictures is exactly how it is in it's current state. The car is located in Orange County, CA. The first oil change on this newly rebuilt motor was done today. The mileage is approximately 300 miles since it was rebuilt and all break-in procedures were followed accordingly as the shop specified. The car runs great and has been driven from Orange County to Los Angeles twice with absolutely no problems. The generator (not installed) will be included with the car, so if you desire to change out the alternator, you will have it. A folder including all the receipts will go with the car. Pictures of the car during and after the restoration can be included on a CD if desired. The heater core does not leak but the hoses were plugged at the block (can be easily reversed by installing fittings) to prevent the coolant from sitting in the heater core during storage and minimize the possibilities of leaks/corrosion.
