Vehicle Detail
RE-LISTED. Reserve has been significantly lowered. Factory rated at 186mph (electronic limit of 155mph). BMW’s Supercar of the 90’s. Manufactured from 1989-1999, as a ‘Grand Tourer.’ Approx 31k ever made in its 10 year history. Approx 7k shipped to US in its 10 year history. Over $86k brand new in 1993. Registered w/ BMW 8 Registry of North America – One of 24 1993 850CI’s in color code 308 (brilliantrot) still on the road in North America. · Used as a daily driver for past 4 years. · 14.5 mpg (daily commuter from base housing to work). Have gotten 18.5 mpg driving gently on highway. · New Belts and Power Steering Pump replaced 2 years ago by German Autowerke of Oceanside. · Has factory correct Copper spark plugs. · Includes factory original never-used first aid kit. · Factory tool kit is 90%. Missing factory screwdriver and glovebox flashlight. · Owners manual (to include cassette tape guide) and navigation cards 100% complete. · Wired for a BMW car phone (missing). · A/C, Heat, Cruise Control, Dash lights, heated/power seats = All work. · Sport Mode, or Manual option (clutchless shifting). · Wheels are upgraded to BMW 1995 design – full size spare tire. · Unidirectional, off set-size front/rear W-Rated (168mph) Kumho tires. · Just renewed NC Registration in April – Plates are transferable with sale of vehicle (no fee to NC.) I have Title in hand. · Auto-ventilate (time programmed). · Point to point distance navigation. · Absolutely incredible performance and BMW renowned handling. I have owned a number of European autos, and nothing performs or handles like the Red Sled. · This vehicle gets compliments and looks at every gas station and stoplight. Radar detector mounted under front air dam, with custom lights installed in front of instrument cluster gauge. (seemed to work ok - turned off years ago due to being illegal in Virginia and on Federal property. Just left it there and off, because car alarm sounds if you disconnect it under the car. Have not turned on or tested in years). · Mechanical/Cosmetic defects: Vehicle is 20 years old and has 156,000 miles and is what you might expect for a vehicle of this age - Rust bubble on sunroof, passenger door paint split, chipped and flaking, chips and paint flaking on front and rear bumpers. Clear coat flaking on tops of side view mirrors. Also small dent on passenger side door underneath mirror (cant tell from pictures, and is difficult to see unless up close). No California smog check. Several dealer service stamps in back of handbook from many years ago, but no paperwork other than that. Been sitting for 2 weeks - started right up. Been sitting for 2 weeks - 2 oil spots underneath the vehicle, each less than 1 inch diameter. 1 power steering fluid spot, approx 2in-3in diameter (smaller than palm of your hand). All fluid levels ok. Drivers side high beam or its fuze continually blow – I cant find the short. Affects drivers side high beam only - low beams, fog lights, turn signals, etc all good. Air bag light comes on intermittently – forums say this is common and contact points need to be cleaned. · ASC (automatic stability control) turns itself off past 45mph, and ASC button won’t turn it back on until you stop and turn off engine. · Change oil light warning every start-up – even after a fresh oil change and light re-set (oil changed every 6 months; once in Spring, once in Fall) · Front tires need immediate replacement. (back tires are ok, but offset-size and uni-directional. Since it is not advised to replace front only on tires, really needs new ones all around). · Batteries (2x) are 4 years old – Wont start if it is very cold outside and not been driven for 5 or 6 days. Fine if used regularly. · Only have 1x key – key FOB buttons don’t work. · Sunroof needs some help closing all the way. · Windshield washer pump doesn’t work. Passenger door very tricky to open from outside - sometimes works fine, sometimes very difficult. No problem from the inside. Recently showed the vehicle and tested the tape deck - works, but sounds very grainy with lots of distortion. Tape was removed, but radio is stuck in tape mode, and wont switch to AM/FM/or CD. All were working fine before then - Intend to disconnect batteries sometime this week and see if I can get it to re-set. · About time for maintenance all around – I bought a new vehicle instead. If I had kept, I was going to do: Brake pads/rotors, new wheels/tires on all 4 (these sizes can be found on Tirerack.com), all fluids exchanged. · Some parts commonality with 7-Series from same time. Some parts are vehicle specific and difficult to find. On Jul-14-13 at 17:01:08 PDT, seller added the following information: Update 1: Rear tires are: 285/40ZR17. Front tires are: 235/45ZR17.Update 2: Box of BMW specific junk in the trunk (not pictured) will come with vehicle: Coverking car cover, extra fuzes, bulbs, etc.
