Vehicle Detail
Re-listing due to non-paying winner. PLEASE! Do not bid if you don't intend to purchase and have funds available! Very rare, 1 of 30 Saleen Budget "Rent-a-Racers" made in 1996. Similar to the Shelby Hertz program, Saleen had S281's available for rent on the west coast. This car was at LAX and still wears all it's original Budget stickers including the tax stickers, id stickers and Budget maintenance sticker. A very clean, extremely rust free car that has won awards at nearly every show it's been entered in. The cleanliness of the underside is amazing. It's obvious this car has been in a warm climate and been garaged all it's life. This car was sold to a family in south Texas and lived there until we aquired it in 2009. Being a southern car, it is totally rust free and very clean underneath. We repainted the car and added some extras such as billet switches, Recaro seats, FR500 steering wheel, cold air intake, Bassani off road X-pipe, and aftermarket Saleen style wheels in order to save the original Magnesium's. (not included but can be negotiated after the sale) We've also purchased a speedster cover to be included with the car. It also has the soft tonneau cover as well. New Dunlop tires were mounted on the aftermarket Saleen style wheels. A Pioneer navigation CD unit was added along with a 2004 middle dash section. It is a Pioneer B310 with bluetooth and an ipod/iphone hookup with a custom Kuda phone mount. Brakes were upgraded to Cobra style brakes with slotted rotors at all four corners. Calipers were painted black with yellow Saleen decals. They are NOT Alcons. The car had Saleen/Bilstein front struts we believe were added by Saleen before re-sale, and we replaced the original Carerra rear shocks with Bilstiens. Again, all original parts are saved and come with the car. The 4R70W transmission was rebuilt in 2009 with police interceptor internals and a shift kit. It shifts hard and firm! A billet shift knob and leather boot were added to give the appearance of the car being a manual. Bullitt style pedals were added. The Recaro CSE seats are from the early 90's. They alone were $2200 EACH back then. Drivers works perfectly including heat. Passenger seat only reclines. Original black GT leather seats included. They are in fair condition with the typical hole on the drivers left bolster. The car is signed by Steve Saleen in two places. See pictures. Also included is the Saleen letter of authentication and the Ford 999 report showing build date and options. This is probably one of the most documented Budget Saleens around. All Budget stickers are there including the Budget maintenance sticker, rental car ID stickers, Ontario County rental car tax ID stickers, etc. Again, this is one of the most un-molested, documented Budget Saleens around. Few of these cars still have these stickers still attached to the car. The car is very reliable and has been driven recently to Florida on a 2000 mile trip. It was the feature Saleen on the stage next to Steve Saleen at the 2010 Silver Springs Ford and Mustang Roundup in Ocala Florida sponsored by NPD. The car has also made trips to New York and other regional shows. I'd drive this car across country tomorrow. The only issue with the drivetrain is some weapy valve guide seals. The car will let out a small puff of smoke after idling for a moment or two. An annoyance and nothing else. Odometer shows 107k, but quit working this spring. Car has a few hundred more miles on it than that. Title is mileage exempt as per Indiana policy for a car older than 15 years with a mechanical odometer. I am open to Mustang trades, especially a nice 1979 Pace Car, but am selling the car for a very reasonable reserve. The car is also for sale locally. A $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction ending, and balance due upon car pickup or 7 days, whichever comes first. Check my feedback. I sell what I describe. Dan
