Vehicle Detail

Yes, it's a 944"S" 16 Valve Ventiler Edition, 5-speed manual, being sold by a long time PCA member. It's in EXCELLENT MECHANICAL CONDITION and needs nothing. This IS NOT a fixer upper and no expense has been spared on anything the car has needed mechanically. I have a folder full of records, receipts, upgrades. If you're looking for a cheap 944 8 valve you can spend for $3k-$5k to buy one. They're all over eBay and they're cheap. But they are cheap for a reason...because they are the lesser liked 8 valve engine and they are still mechanically expensive to fix. They WILL nickel and dime you (more like hundred and thousand you) every which way you turn and what starts out as a bargain turns into a labor of love and deep pockets or you put it back up for sale, in most cases cheaper than you bought it for. It's just not worth it. What you're investing into this car buys you a beautiful example of Porsche history and the wonderful piece of mind that it's the much preferred 944S 16 valve Ventiler that is MECHANICALLY VERY RIGHT (and ask anyone who owns one and they will tell you that to buy one this right is a deal!). You can have confidence to DRIVE this 944S Ventiler IN COMFORT ANYWHERE...To work, to the store, to the car show, to the track, or to the other side of the country. The A/C blows cold, the heater is toasty, the sun roof comes off, and the windows are power...so it's totally up you as to how to enjoy the ride! This is a RUST FREE SOUTHERN CAR that I inherited from my Dad's estate in 2012. The selling of this car is not a money making proposition, it's more like a partial reimbursement at best. It has had over $8,000 in recent preventative and required maintenance and some terrific cosmetic updating to make it RIGHT. Whatever it has needed, it has gotten, and you should not likely need to do anything but oil changes and wear items maintenance for years to come. You could "concours-detail" the engine compartment but that would be about it. I just had it inspected by my local Barvarian auto shop in preparation for the sale and they complimented on it's great condition. PLEASE READ ON 6,000 MILES AGO THE ENGINE RECEIVED ALL NEW: 16 Stainless Porsche valves, New valve seals 3 angle valve cut Cylinder head machined flat New timing belt New balance shaft belt All new belt rollers on the front of the engine New cam shaft tensioner guides New cam shaft chain New head gasket WITHIN THE LAST 500 MILES Freshly painted in May 2012 (no color change) New Wheels - 18x8.5 all around with full color Porsche center caps manufactured by USARIM. New Tires - 225/40/18 Nexen N3000. New Motor Mounts Windows professionally tinted Kenwood/Alpine sound system professionally installed Fresh oil, filter, and brake fluid A/C charge professionally done with R12 **CA smog legal and has always passed emissions both in GA and CA. No issues ever. You're buying from true Porsche guy as I grew up around Porsches most of my life as my dad was a long time Porsche Club of America (PCA) Member, and very active PCA Certified Driving Instructor, and PCA Executive Board Member. We actually won "Family of the Year" for the Peachstate PCA a few years back. My Dad had been searching for a 1988 944S for nearly two years before he found the "right" one. This is a fantastic Southern 944S that was purchased new at Jim Ellis Porsche in Atlanta, GA. It has always been in Atlanta, GA up until 2012 when I had it shipped out to my home in Los Angeles. This car has obviously NEVER SEEN SNOW OR SALT EVER and I've done all I can over the past 16 months to finish it off as my Dad would of wanted it to be. I have proudly "shown" it many times at the famous West Hills Super Car Sunday, as you can see in some of the pictures, and it's a truly great looking 1988 944S and getting rarer to find as years go by. My father owed about 30 Porsches in his life and even with all of the 911's he had, the 944's were his favorites. This most recent and last 944 for him was a different type of buy, as he was getting old with failing health and he simply wanted a 944S "Street Car" that had all of the bells and whistles that he could drive whenever he wanted to around town, or weekend trips with my mom, in comfort and style. Being a Porsche Driving Instructor and attending events many weekends each year, he also wanted to be able to use it for an occasional Porsche Driver Education Event (this is frequent PCA event where Porsche owners get track time and an "instructor", who are other club members, to safely learn how to drive their Porsche fast) which he did in this car just once at the end of 2011 not too long before he passed. In preparation for that event, he added a FR Wilkes performance chip that gives it a little more pep and also spent a whopping $1,900 (I have the detailed receipt) for the Sparco EVO Fiberglass Race Seat, harness bar, and Schroth II-6 Hans Black Harness. My dad always did things right...it was just the way he was. But other than the performance chip and the seat/harness, this car is basically factory stock. The car has never been raced or auto crossed, although it is certainly ready for it if that's what you are wanting to do. The Sparco EVO he purchased is a top of the line seat and it slides back and forth just like the stock seat for easy adjustment, and even the factory seat belt can still be used. I do not have the original factory drivers seat as my mom gave it to a PCA friend who asked her for it. But after sitting in the Sparco you'll feel like it's the way it should have come from the factory to start out with as it feels great. The seat belts are still factory stock for all 4 seats. Since I've had it in L.A., I had it freshly painted (the paint looked good, but it was 25 years old and just needed to be refreshed on the outside, no color change). I ordered new wheels/tires; the wheels are 18x8.5 all around with full color Porsche center caps manufactured by USARIM. Tires are 225/40/18 Nexen N3000. I had the windows tinted, and had a great sounding Kenwood/Alpine sound system professionally installed. Upon inspection at my local Bavarian auto shop it was recommended that I replace the motor mounts so I had that done too. It runs as smooth a sewing machine and is smog legal registered in CA...no issues. The reason I'm selling it is simply the fact that I just don't have room for it and I don't drive it very much. I've only put on about 500 miles in 16 months, mostly back and forth to the car shows and weekend fun. I'm looking to find a great home for this special 944S for someone who will care for it and enjoy it as much as I do, and I know my dad would have if he had lived to see it done like this. It needs to be driven and enjoyed often! E-mail me...call me...check it out for yourself and if you're the lucky buyer you're going to own a fantastic 1988 944S to call you own! Here are some Porsche Factory Specs about the car: 1988 model year, 944S "Super" (1987 and 1988 models only). The 944S features a high performance normally aspirated, dual-overhead-cam 16-valve 192 PS (141 kW; 189 hp) version of the 2.5 litre engine (M44/40) featuring an self-adjusting timing belt tensioner. This marked the first use of four-valve-per-cylinder heads and DOHC in the 944 series, derived from the 928S4 featuring a redesigned camshaft drive, a magnesium intake tract/passages, magnesium valve cover, larger capacity oil sump and revised exhaust system. The alternator capacity was 115 amps. The wheel bearings were also strengthened and the brake servo action was made more powerful. Floating 944 calipers were standard, but the rear wheel brake circuit pressure regulator from the 944 turbo was used. Discrete '16 Ventlier' script badges were added on the sides in front of the body protection mouldings. Performance was quoted as 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds and a 232 km/h (144 mph) top speed. It also featured an improved programmed Bosch Digital Motronic 2 Computer/DME with dual knock sensors for improved fuel performance for the higher 10.9:1 compression ratio cylinder head. Like the 944 Turbo, the 944S received progressive springs for greater handling, revised transmission and gearing to better suit the 2.5-litre DOHC higher 6800 rpm rev limit. A Club Sport touring package (M637) was available. Dual air bags, limited-slip differential and ABS were optional on the 944S as was the lightweight 16 inch CS/Sport Fuch forged alloy wheels. This car was raced in Canada, Europe and in the USA IMSA Firehawk Cup Series. Production was limited to two years; 1987 and 1988 only. It was superseded in 1989 by the 'S2' 944 edition. It is garaged at my home in Bell Canyon, CA and can be seen by appointment. You will see on the vehicle history that there was 1 accident reported. It was a very minor rear bumper bruise over 16 years ago. Here is the history of the car and it's fantastic! The 3 last title transfers where from my Dad's purchase of the car, then to my Mom for my Dad's estate, and then to me.
