Vehicle Detail
1957 Chevrolet Handyman 150 - 2dr WagonThank You for viewing this 1957 Handyman 150. 2dr wagons these days are Rare to find these days in very original condition. If you know me, you know my passion are survivor, nice patina cars like this, and Wagons 2dr or 4dr are top on my list. But the cream of the crop, are 2dr wagons, very rare to find in this condition. This Handyman was bought new her in Oregon owned by the same family. The second owner from whom we got it from, has owned this car for almost 20 years he bought it from the lady that was the primary driver. He bought it from the original owner pretty much how you see it. Cosmetically the only difference is that the wheels have been media stripped, and painted, newer tires, and 1958 Corvette Hubcaps. When the second owner got it, he did a very nice upgrade to the car, has a rebuilt 283 4V, Muncie 4spd, and has Power Front Disc Brakes, but basically wanted to keep the car in its original condition, interior and exterior. This car drives like a dream, down the freeway, one figure on the steering wheel, straight as an arrow, just a pure pleasure to drive. It runs great, sounds very nice with the upgraded Dual exhaust, Transmission is tight, the car stops excellent, nice and smooth. The miles are believed to be true at 100,226, the speedo and odometer both work, you can fly in and drive her home!!!!The condition of the car is just awesome. To me, I wouldn't change to much to her, lots of folks today pay a lot of money to make their cars look like this, the Patina is to die for. What I love about this car, is that it has a Super Stock drag car look, when you drop the hubcaps off it, run a cheater slicks on the rear and hit the streets, instead of a '57 FI Black widow, you could call it the White Widow. A car really can only be original once, if I was a rich guy, I would have a who collection of original cars, they draw a crowd, over restored cars every time, there is just something special about them that intrigues people. The body is in very nice shape, very straight. I should have had my paintless dent guy fix the bottom of the door a little bit on the drivers side, and a few small dings taken out, he could have done it in about 30 min. Anyways, the body is very nice, look down the sides, the white paint has a lot of fade to it on the top edges, the car sat in a car port for many years, with the drivers side facing the weather, and the nose sitting out, mother nature created a masterpiece on this sweet gal. The roof gutters are in excellent shape on the car. There is obviously some surface rust on the car, but it is all in good shape. The only rust threw that is very small is at the corner of the door. Under the doors inside the door jams, the rockers are all rust free, very solid very clean. The undercarriage of the car is very good, all the body mounts are in great shape. The only rust issue under the car is the passenger front floor pan, you can see it in the pictures, it needs a patch panel, put in, not a full front floor, just about a 8" by 11" panel, pretty easy to fix, or just leave it. The frame on the car is in excellent shape no issues. One thing to remember about this car, is that there is NO BONDO, never hit, no repairs done on this car, what you see is what you get, very hard on a car that is 56 YEARS OLD. The glass is in good shape for the most part and original. Repairs that are needed, is the front windshield has a small chip on the drivers side down low, chip repairman could fix it, and the drivers door glass, has crack. Over all the car is complete, the chrome is all there and trim, bumpers and chrome have pitting. The stainless trim is in excellent shape for its age. Interior, is all original, besides the Muncie 4spd. Look at the pictures of the interior and you can see basically what it is. If I were to keep the car, the interior, I would work on a little bit. For now, My Sweets and I put a Mexican blanket on the seat and cruise it. I would have the front seat redone, clean the other panels, repaint the silver on the dash, and put a new floor mat in the car because it has aged. Other wish list, would be AC. Overall the interior for a car that has not be garaged, is in good shape, The headliner has no rips, it is clean, it has a few wrinkles in it, but I think a shop could steam them out and get it tight in those areas, then again, it looks good as is. The heater works, the windshield wipers work. The Odometer Speedometer, both work. The horn works as well. The headlights, turnsignals, brake lights work as well. The interior dome light is not working and dash lights are not working, probably the bulb or fuse never looked actually. The Temp gauge works. The gas gauge is not working currently and the radio is not working. The car smells good inside, no musty pretty decent. Mechanically the car is in great working order. The engine, fires right up, no smoke, no burning oil, has a nice sound. It is a Chevy 283, 4V carb, it was rebuilt about 20 years ago and put in the car. It sounds great, the paint on the engine is clean, no just painted. The vintage Aluminum valve covers look nice for the vintage as well. If you look under the hood, you will notice that it has Power Disc Brakes, what a great add for this car, it stops very nice. The transmission is a Muncie 4spd, it shifts nicely, no noise, no whinning, very good transmission. No leaks on the floor in my shop, no burning smell of oil, mechanically the car is in order currently. Overall, this car drives really nice down the freeway, took it to a Cars and Coffee event, this last Saturday morning, that a friend and I started about 3 years ago, it showed well, among all the Vipers, Porsche, and Ferrari's that were there. The tires are in very good shape, they were put on the car in 2005, they have about 95% tread on them, and are in very nice shape. It currently has 3 1958 Corvette Hubcaps, and 1 1960 Corvette cap, I have the 3 original 57 Chevy Dog Dish Hubcaps that I will include they are not that nice. If you want to fly in and have an adventure and drive it home that would be just fine. Shipping it would probably be a cheaper, but some like an adventurous road trip.
