Vehicle Detail
1947 Ford 1/2 ton Pickup This is a great little 1947 Ford short box pickup. This Model lasted from 1942-47, I believe they just called these the 1/2 ton pickup, the F1 name may have started in 1948. Very hard to find, since there were limited production during WWII. This truck, runs great, with its 239 Flathead V8 and 4spd manual. This truck I got from a gentleman's family, he was 88 years old, and enjoyed this little truck and was hoping to get her back on the road again to enjoy. It is back on the road now, and just a hoot to drive. The engine cranks over easily, and fires right away. The little Flathead, sounds great, the exhaust sounds good, nothing like a Flathead Powered Ford. This will make someone a nice little Farm Truck, Rat Rod, or Hot Rod project really. it is a solid truck, and is a nice canvas for anyone. Personally I like her just the way it is, maybe lower it a bit, run dual or tri power on it, and just enjoy it the say it is. It drives great for an truck that has not been restored, just up kept though the years. It is 66 years old, amazing hope I am running this good at 66! The body on this truck is solid, very old paint, it is an original Red Truck, the floor boards are amazing, under the truck is in very good shape. No issues with the frame, very solid not rusty. The trucks fenders are wavy, but inside they look very clean, you can see some small dings and dents, inside, but overall they are pretty solid. When I got it, the front passenger fender had some bondo on the front that he had applied and sanded off. But he had recently passed and never finished it. I just put some primer over it to cover it, not trying to paint it or anything just protecting it. If you were going to restore this truck, you would really need to spend the time to work the fenders out smooth again, they are all steel and original to the truck, they are worth saving, original steel is hard to find these days. The doors are pretty clean, the hood looks great. The cab is in very good shape, a couple small bubbles in the corners of the cab in the rear. The drivers fender, is dented, it was accidently rubbed against something, see pictures. The bed is decent, but it needs repairs, a few small rust bubbles here and there. The floor in the bed, is a piece of sheet metal, but I think someone made this insert for it long ago, because it has old school rivits down the sides, and by the tailgate lip, the metal folds over, like it was perfectly made of the truck, so some one took some time doing this, I don't think it is original. Look at the body on the truck and it is pretty self explanatory what it does and doesn't need. You will see it does not having any windshield wipers as well. Someone put on Front trun signals, on the bumper and added ones on the rear, not sure why they did not make the original ones work, but I left them, because they work, so why mess with it, next owner can make the original work if you want. The glass is all good on the truck, no cracks. The drivetrain in the truck is in pretty good shape actually. The engine starts up every time, on the first crank really, she fires and idles nicely. The engine I believe is original, but looks like it may have been rebuilt in the past, hard to say after 66 years. It does run great though. It is a 239 Flathead Ford V8, which is a very good motor, and used for many years by Ford, lots of Old School hot rods run this same engine. It does not blow or burn any oil, no major engine leaks, maybe a small drip on the ground every few days, but pretty minor. The transmission is a 4spd Manual which is pretty handy. It shifts nicely, clutch feels like it is in good shape, no transmission or rear end noise. These old trucks are like it best between 45-55mph, and they really like the back roads, though in town she does great. The tires are in good shape, no cracking, they are older, but I think they are in good shape for the next few years personally. The brakes work great as well, and stop the truck with ease. Speedometer and Odometer do work, and the amp gauge works. Oil Pressure gauge is not working, Temp gauge has an aftermarket one. It is running an electric Fuel pump underneath for more reliability, the original fuel pump has been removed and a block off plate has sealed the opening. The exhaust seems to be in pretty good shape as well truck has a nice little rumble. Interior is in pretty good shape for an old truck. The seat, is in good shape, the cushion is good and springs, but there are some rips on the drivers side that someone put tape on. The headliner, is either really original and nice, or it has been replaced, it is in great shape. The floor mat is original looking, but decent. Under the mat it is in excellent shape, nice floors. Doors are in good shape, windows roll up and down nicely, door glass is in good shape, no cracks. I do have the heater unit for the truck in a box, it just needs to be reinstalled, pretty easy, so it will go with the truck, just goes under the dash and bolts to the firewall. Overall a clean interior, that you wouldn't mind taking out your wife or girlfriend in. This truck drives very easy, so anyone can drive it. Overall, a useable truck, it has small needs here and there, obviously not a show truck, though very nice original restored examples these days can fetch $30-50K, depending on how nice they are. This truck has very good bones for someone, to use as is, restore, or build a hot rod. Would love to see this one used for the Farmers Market, or events like that.
