Vehicle Detail

This is a no-reserve auction for the last of the Long Hoods. This 1972 Porsche 911T with mechanical injection looks great and makes all the right noises. It runs and drives like a 40 year old solid, German built sports car from Zuffenhausen should. Any early car in good shape is a sure bet to go up in value this year as it is the 50th anniversary of the 911. Snatch this one up as it will go quickly. History: This Targa example has been owned and driven regularly by the current owner for over 20 years. His father, who helped design the first-ever electronic fuel injection system while at Bendix Corporation (eventually patented & sold to Bosch and used very successfully on later Porsches) infected the current owner with the Porsche bug after giving him a ride in a 72’ 911T as a youngster. He finally purchased his own 911 many years later as a labor-of-love project and since then has been enjoying all the wonderful sights, sounds & smells that go along with restoring & driving a vintage Porsche. Early Porsches abhor going years without being driven. For the past 20 years it has been garage kept, owned and driven regularly by a passionate Porsche enthusiast. Tastefully repainted light Ivory (Color code 131) with black interior. Original color is Albert Blue (325). It is nearly all original with the professionally installed reproduction glass fiber spoiler bumper in matching light ivory. It has the original rust free floor and tub. Recent Work: Brand new Yokohama Avid H4S 205/65/15 tires all around. New front calipers, pads and rotors were installed in the last few months. The front pan was professionally replaced intact with solid battery boxes. The car is currently serviced at Connecticuts premier Porsche shop, Hairy Dog Garage. The engine was rebuilt about 12,000 miles ago. The fuel injection was fully rebuilt by Pacific Coast F.I. about 15 years ago. New brake lines were installed as well. Condition: As such it is a true runner and mechanically, this 911 is solid. The motor and gearbox both run near flawlessly… it runs, shifts, brakes & handles as well as any early 911. The motor is one of the strongest parts of this car. It was rebuilt and is fresh. It received new Biral cylinders instead of cast iron at rebuild. The injection system is complete and original Bosche MFI. This example was optioned from the factory with 5 speed transmission and radio. It has 6x15 beautifully refinished wheels that are near concours quality. Money was well spent here as it is proves to add value. This 911T is an ideal candidate to restore or even better, turn-key and enjoy right now. It is a clean example which has seen no hot-rodding or rgruppe backdating. There is a small dent on the passenger front fender and around the rear license plate. Its condition makes it a fine example to drive regularly. There is no structural rust. There is some wear and tear on the drivers seat (see pictures). The rest of the interior is in great shape with a classic rich patina on the leatherette. The rare factory door pockets are included and could be reconditioned and installed. The dash is perfect without even a crack in the speaker mount. The original targa top is without tears above and below is intact with sagging headliner. There are no chips on any glass. The odometer shows 102,680 miles but the true mileage is unknown. The engine was rebuilt about 12,000 miles ago and pulls like it did from the factory. There is no smoke or unusual noises (see video of engine running at the image gallery link. Transmission shifts well. The 3rd gear synchro is noisy at higher rpm up-shifts. Engine has Carrera pressure fed tensioners, turbo lower valve covers. It includes the desirable mechanical fuel injection. Drives tight on Koni front and rear struts and shocks. Included are original jack and tool kit complete down to spare fan belt. Also included is original MFI manual. All the chrome and stainless targa bar are in great shape. Heater boxes are disconnected. Cold start solenoid is hard wired to a hidden button as a security device. Bottom Line: No drama here. This car comes with a clean Connecticut title and bill of sale. The whole package is simply ready to drive and fall deeply in love with.
