Vehicle Detail
Very Unique Toyota for sale, I'm moving and no longer have time to work on it.See it run at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgaAYLUnD4g1991 Toyota 4x4 Extended Cab Truck with a 1992 JDM Toyota 2LT-II 2.4L Turbo Diesel engine converted by myself in 2004. Truck with 253K miles on it, engine with ~150K, 5 speed manual, converted to WVO (Waste Vegetable Oil) by myself in 2006 with about 60K miles on the two tank, fully heated system. This will significantly reduce your fuel cost once you are up and running with WVO. Can also run 100% biodiesel year round without concerns about gelling. Can also run regular diesel without issue. Please check out www.toyotadiesel.com for more info then you will ever want to know about this and other Toyota diesel's It spent its gas engine life with a 22RE 4 cylinder engine on the front range of CO where I bought it from the original owner, then spent time between Montana, Alaska, Washington and is currently in New Mexico. The diesel engine is used the world over in the Hilux which is the overseas version of the 4runner and truck. It has a known issue with cracking cylinder heads due to a design flaw that does not allow the head to cool properly at the rear. The good news is that this engine already cracked a head before I bought it from the the prior engine owner in South Dakota and he had it replaced with one from Allhead, an Australian company. This head fixes the design flaw with an auxiliary port coming out the back of the head. The addition of this $1600 part makes this engine nearly bombproof. It is 1992 2.4L indirect injection rotary pump fired turbo diesel from a Japanese 4runner with now about 150K miles on it. The Toyota engine code is 2LT-II and is indirect injection with swirl chambers. The injection pump was initially electronically controlled but the prior owner sourced a brand new mechanical pump used in Europe and changed it out so that this truck only needs 3 wires to run: starter, fuel cut solenoid, glow plugs. The pump is also a nearly identical clone to the ones used on early VW diesels, the so called VE rotary pumps and as such can be rebuilt easily. It should be noted that these engines were run stock on some Toyota trucks from 84-86 (just with a different cylinder head) in the US so parts are relatively readily available. Also, many of these trucks are available in Canada as imports but are not legal to be registered in the US. This does make part availability easier as well. This Engine is a very easy swap into any 4 cyclinder Toyota truck or 4runner prior to 1995. I have a bellhousing to mate it to an R150 trans found behind the V6 engine as well as the current W56 5 speed manual. This truck will run at highway speed, speedo is a little under calibrated because of larger tires and power could be better. Does smoke under heavy load. Many people have obtained better mileage and power with advancing the timing slightly as Toyota undertimes these from the factory (also fixes the smoke issue). Because of the mechanical pump and aftermarket head, this needs to be done by skipping a tooth on the timing belt if you need to advance this further then it is already. The good:Newer Platinum DieHard batteryNewer clutchNew BGF AT's 31x10.50's but with abnormal wear on front (see bad)Recently rebuilt injectorsTopper with Yakima Rack system comes with truckEGT guage although not calibrated correctly secondary to electrical problem (see below)Great compression for age, tested 1 year prior4WD works great The bad:Has electrical problem where it overcharges the battery (not voltage regulator on alternator, suspect bad ground, likely easily fixable with finding said ground, or swapping in GM one wire alternator which is included in sale). This truck is fully drivable, however you need to intermittently disconnect the alternator which takes 30 seconds. Given that it is fully mechanical it will run for hours on battery power alone. Once the battery voltage drops a little, you can reconnect the alternator which will keep the voltage around 14 or so until the battery is fully charged then it goes to 16. Super weird.Old truck, likely needs front end work soon (Torsion bars, etc.)See above, dents and dings, old paint, surface rust on underside but no structural problemsCut out part of trans tunnel to attempt R150 swap, easy to weld or patchSpeedo sometimes squeaksCracked tail light but fully functioningRip in driver's seatOne injector has a pintle that will occasionally stick, think number 3 cylinder, this causes intermittent skipping, smoking, etc. Usually lasts less then a second. Small oil leak Parts that come with this: 8 Spare injector cores, ready to be rebuilt Full engine gasket set bellhousing to mate engine to R150 transmission (found in V6 trucks and 4runners) valve cover gasket GM one wire alternator 2 spare Toyota alternators for this engine 8 replacement glow plugs Various manuals specific to this engine and truckLots of gas/diesel cans used to transport vegetable oil. Regarding the title, this truck has a clean title which does not say it is a diesel on it. This is because Montana, being Montana, does not require that for this swap. Please understand or inquire about your own state's laws prior to bidding. This truck is fully drive-able for short trips however if you are more then a couple hundred miles away I would strongly consider shipping because of its issues. Please note: to drive and own this truck in its current form you must be able to work on your own car although this engine is very easy to work on. Mechanics are not familiar with this engine, although obviously the truck is common. Thanks for reading this, let me know if you have any questions and good luck!DaveOn Jun-05-13 at 05:50:09 PDT, seller added the following information: Added 6-5-13: Sorry, forgot to add that the power steering tension bolt is missing but should be an easy fix. This means that power steering is not currently working, however, when the bolt is in place it works well.
