Vehicle Detail
Consumer Reports called the BMW 525i, "One of the best cars ever built." This one's been great but lacking funds and technical expertise, I'm falling further and further behind with its rehabilitation and so cannot afford to keep. Currently Does Not Start and Last Was Showing Check Engine Light A daily driver until three months ago, this road warrior still runs well when battery is jumped. But turn her off and off she stays off until the next jump. When charged and left disconnected, battery holds a charge of 10.3v or so, which I believe indicates there is a problem with the alternator. The problem is probably either the infamous brake-fluid-hose-seep-onto-top-of-alternator issue, or car needs new belts/pulleys. Even if you resolve alternator, this car will likely require work to pass inspection. Current StateCar drives after a jump, but cannot restart without another jump. Battery does not hold charge unless left disconnected.Mileage: 227,000 or so. Odometer works, I just don’t feel like jumping battery again so I can read it.Last getting 17 MPG local, 23 highway.Air conditioning, heating and sunroof work great.Model-typical issues: Air bag light constantly on and water appears in rear foot wells after constant downpour/snow.As of two months ago, constant Check Engine/ABS/Brake lights display, remote key does not work, three rear doors do not unlock and windows no longer operate (three stuck cracked open). Believe ABS unit needs re-refurbing, but could be due to something else (such as likely alternator issue, described below).Windshield has many small pits, as might expect. Has had a large crack in lower right corner ever since I bought at 149,000 miles.Right-rear passenger door crumpled near front after I backed up six inches with door open and hit tree by driveway. Must slam to close. Do not know if can be pulled out...makes front-right passenger door tight to open/close.Front bumper cracked at passenger-side corner.Aftermarket headlights and fogs.Scratches along lower right rocker panel (road ice).Spare tire badly worn on outside, possibly due to missing balancing weight.Yes, that's a 16-digit VIN.Recent Replacements/Repairs Put new worm clamps on brake reservoir hoses, May, 2013. Transmission rebuilt August, 2012. Works just fine. Replaced front/rear brake pads, intake manifold vent valve (CCV), oil pan gasket, lower front control arms and had rear main seal of engine repaired and rear differential resealed, August 2012. ABS module rebuilt October, 2011. May need refurbing again, per "Current State" description below. Right rear suspension air spring replaced 15 months ago, left rear three months ago. Replaced MAF, coolant temperature, camshaft, crankshaft sensors, as well as DISA valve, with OEM equipment. Replaced Secondary Air System valve, hose, check valve and solenoid, as well as two rubber stem covers on intake manifold. Left-front fender replaced with aftermarket piece after someone backed out of their driveway and hit it. Looks great. Work Needed Soon Aforementioned dashboard lights/remote key/windows/rear doors issue. Possibly alternator-/fan belts and pulleys-related. Windshield washer system hosing brittle and cracking---patched so it works, but imminent need to replace. License light bulbs need replacing. Summary An essentially roadworthy vehicle that might be made whole again by someone experienced with e39s, but otherwise best as a parts car. Here are vehicle features description (https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8Y4CTx2zcjqbEhVMjZScTFfRkU/edit) given me by dealer, as well as CarFax (https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8Y4CTx2zcjqZk43OVc2M19vS28/edit?usp=sharing) up through when I purchased six years ago. Suspect you could jump battery and drive it away, but since battery drains probably not ready to pass inspection and best if you haul it off by flatbed. Buyer assumes responsibility for transporting vehicle, which can be done once your payment clears my bank.
