Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible. The car is currently registered, has a clear title and just passed its annual New York state inspection. Current NADA value per NADAGuides.com Low: $7,950 Average: $15,300 High: $26,300 ***Reserve is set well below low book value*** 1971 was the last year for the chrome blade type bumpers so it is a desirable model. The car runs and drives well. Everything in the car works except the original wind-up clock. The Sony stereo works ,but needs new speakers. Mechanically most work has been done. The only mechanical thing that should be looked into is, when backing up a hill or incline, it will pop out of reverse. If you hold the shifter, it works fine. May be a simple adjustment or detent in the tranny. I have another transmission that the winning bidder can have with the car. The ignition key locks and unlocks both doors. Body work still needs to be done. Some owner before me had the car painted, but the prep work wasn’t done well and paint has cracked and popped off in a few areas. The rust in those areas seems to be surface only. The floor pans are good. There is one small rust hole under the back seat. The are some rust holes under the nose area(see pictures) and some bubbles in the paint on the lower rocker panels. The top has no rips or holes. The interior is old but usable. There are no rips or splits in the seats, there is one 1/4" puncture hole on the drivers seat bottom. As you will see below, a new top and all new interior have been purchased and comes with the car. It has radial tires that have good tread. It also has Western Alloy Wheels with Wolfsburg Crest center caps. The wheels need polishing. The engine is a dual port dual relief case 1600cc. The case serial number starts with “SST” as apposed to the standard VW case numbers so it is an aftermarket case and may have a larger displacement. As I don’t know for sure, I am listing is as a stock 1600cc. I bought the car a couple of years ago with the intent of restoring it. Soon after I bought it I became a caregiver and just don’t have the time now. I have already done some work and have a lot of new parts that go with it. See below for lists. New parts installed and work done: New adjustable drop front axle with urethane bushings. New late model front brake calipers, pads and hoses. New front wheel bearings. New urethane stabilizer bar pads and clamps. New rear brake shoes. New rear deck latch and pull cable. New centrifugal advance distributor with Internal electronic ignition module(no more points or condenser). High volume oil pump with fitting for remote oil filter(filter mount included, but not installed). New extra capacity aluminum deep oil sump( holds 1.5 qts and cools better). Finned aluminum valve covers. Monza GT performance Exhaust system. Bosch HP Blue coil. Aluminum degree crank pulley. Chrome generator pulley and new belt. New parts included but not installed: Note: All new interior parts are black. New Sun visors, Door panels, Convertible top. New headliner. Headliner cover plate. Rear window glass mount kit. Seat upholstery kit front and rear. Top pivot sleeves. Top hinge covers. Seat belts. ABS wiring cover(under hood). Center console. Fuel door release cable. Woodgrain dash cover. Padded dash set. Deluxe soundproofing and carpet padding. Full custom finished carpet set. Front seat cushion pads. Once the body and paint work is done and the new interior and top are installed, it will be one sharp car. Over the last few years I have sold two hotrods, two Harleys and many antiques all while maintaining a 100% positive feedback, so ask questions and bid with confidence.
